Hizuru wasn't a nation that was attempting genocide; if anything, they were actively siding with Paradis Island. So were the Anti-Marleyan Volunteers, whose countries were also targeted by Eren's Rumbling. Self-defense wasn't the motive.
Anyway, you should strive to avoid targeting innocent civilians, avoid lumping them all as the enemy, and avoid dragging them into military operations. That is part of why the Marleyan Empire aren't good guys.
The people who were actually mounting self-defense operations were Eren's friends, who fought to ensure a smaller-scale Rumbling will be activated on the military forces approaching Paradis.

Kind of trivial but the part that struck me was that the Marleyan Eldians, even warriors and warrior candidates, had never experienced a festival or eaten any good food before. The way I saw AoT was Eren's journey from a spiritual Marleyan (hatred of titans) to a spititual Eldian. He even thought of himself as the Warriors did, first a monster, then an exception among savages, then someone who didn't deserve to live, until he realized the full scope of the human experience would always include "monsters," most of those monsters not being terrifying giants but just being normal, corrupt people.
