The more isekai I watch, the more I realize just how incredible Mushoku Tensei is. All isekai are presumably written by adults, but MT is the only one that feels like an adult wrote it. It has a multidimensional quality, real depth that is lacking in other narratives. The difference is night and day.

Zanoba is just one ancillary character and a comedy relief character at that. The real relationships are Rudeus and his girls, Rudeus and Ruijerd, Rudeus and Paul. There's also Eris-Ruijerd, Linia-Pursena, but these are less common because Rudeus is the POV character 99pc of the time. Rudy, Sylphie, Roxy, Eris, Paul are extremely well-developed, even Lilia, Ghislaine, Nanahoshi, Norn, Aisha are nuanced and interesting characters. None of them is a cardboard cut-off with zero depth.

Also this list is not comprehensive as there are a lot of other characters I didn't mention like Elinalise that get a ton of scenes and are well-established. I'm just an animeonly so I can only comment on what I've seen, in two seasons it's a lot and it feels riveting and dramatic in a way most isekai just isn't. MT in a word has stakes.

Redundancy is trash and I hope it never gets adapted. Usually that kind of material doesn't anyway, and I think you're a bit too optimistic about the main story as well. I mean I love MT but I doubt we'll see a return to the quality of season 1. I think its going to hurt to see the season 2 formula repeated from this point on especially, since there's so many good moments that probably won't get the attention or animation budget they truly require. Oldeus and the diary reading will probably be compressed into a couple minutes when you could make a solid few episodes out of it. They'll probably put most of the budget into the Orsted fight just like they did with the hydra in season 2.

Mushoku Tensei is really good! The polygamy is much worse in the anime (way too many scenes weren't included from the LN and made roxy look really bad) but it's still justifiable.

Mushoku Tensei is a 9/10 for me.

eh, i don't think the "adult" writing really excuses the lack of an interesting story. i really loved it when I binge-read all of the novels, but trying to reread it, the story is kind of directionless until old rudy shows up. There are a lot of boring moments of just nothing happening. The characters are good but have contrived moments to justify immoral behavior. You need to read through ALLLLLLL of the traveling in demon continent, and ALLLLLL of the meandering ED/University stuff and ALLLLLLLL of the traveling to Beggart just for the plot to pick up and go somewhere. All of the interesting stuff is always "later" or being relegated to lore dumps about "the future" and "muh descendants" that have nothing to do with the emotions and struggles the characters were going through at that moment. The main villain that takes generations and multiple timelines to defeat doesn't even have a reason for any of his actions. He's just some random asshole with no relation to any of the characters. I just not really into the "prepping for the future" prequelesque part of this story.

Realistically there's almost always multiple potential mates for anyone (in the story, as the love interests aren't typically failures) and thus there needs strong narrative cause for them to not simply say "welp, I'm out, enjoy her I'm gonna find someone else".

I read all of the light novel and I have the weirdest mixed opinions about it. I like the characters and the relationships, but the pacing of the story felt incredibly weird most of the time. Segments I felt should've been longer were kinda handwaved away while others dragged for far too long to be enjoyable. I also feel that Roxy, Sylphie and Eris at a point just became a narrative tool, occasionally hanging around at random just to show they were still around.
I really disliked the final arc and the slow build up to the last "villain" was bizarre since everything around it felt really unsatisfying. Maybe that was the point, I don't know.
By the end of it I was satisfied of what I read, but it left me with a twisted feeling of wanting "more" because I felt it just closed by leaving far too much hanging and forgotten. I wanted more Zanoba, more Cliff, more Orsteid. Hell, more Perugius and especially more Nanahoshi, holy shit she got so robbed it's not even funny.
