Even aside from having the Harley (mural) and Silmarillion respectively, One Piece and LOTR have many other similaries. I'll just go ahead and say world building first because while Oda's got absolutely nothing on Tolkien, in the same vein no mangaka in history
has anything over Oda when it comes to it. And as far as literature goes, no one takes LOTR seriously since it's really just a children's book albeit very well-written. It's the same for One Piece as a shounen manga. Another similarity that's not as obvious is how much of the world crafting actually makes it into the story. I can assure you that Oda's rough scripts alone are 20 times bigger than the world of One Piece we'll get to see. This kind of autism is exactly why I still read One Piece.

It is possible to write an interesting plotline where Momo wins. It's also possible to make Luffy defeat Kaido without actually defeating him and making it interesting, much like what we got.
