1. Fujimoto never shows Aki and Angel paired romantically, there is touch but their historical love interests have been women (of course they could be bi, but this is still evidence against the Aki-Angel pairing)
2. The HIV Devil was consumed by CSM as discussed by Makima, it doesn't make sense from a lore standpoint.

As someone who read the entirety of CSM pt1 in 2021 and fairly enjoyed it, here's my honest take on the movie. For starters, the source material itself isn't movie-worthy. The arc that proceeds it though? Definitely would've made for a much better cinematic experience. But back to the movie, making a film based on a generic, rushed waifu-bait arc is already a shitty foundation. They try to make it seem more profound than it actually is (like that laughably bad scene where they play classical music over Denji and Reze playing in the pool).
The fight choreography at the end is bad. Again, I attribute this to the source material itself. It's impossible to make engaging fight scenes with OP characters who can explode shit just by making hand gestures. Shit's dumb.
Overall the movie came off as very pretentious coombait tailormade for le heckin high IQ redditors. I'll give it this though, the two "horror" scenes were done extremely well. That is, Reze biting off Denji's tongue and Makima killing Reze at the end. The atmosphere in both scenes is on-point and they're scored and acted perfectly. Other than that though I don't think I'll ever rewatch it. 5/10.

Two, the theory presupposes a romantic element to Aki and Angel’s relationship that does not exist in the text.
Three, the theory separates Aki and Angel’s relationship from the rest of the meta narrative about sacrifice and makes it about star crossed love instead.
Four, it’s literally tumblr levels of reaching and inserting yourself into the text to make csm about the things you want it to be about and claiming that anyone who points this out is media illiterate or anti intellectual is just disingenuous.

There is no evidence within the text, or without it to support the theory. And it is a weak interpretation of the material that adds nothing to our understanding of it, is based entirely in personal opinion and experience, and tells us more about the people who would make such a claim than anything else.

Reze is a stock femme fatale character that you've seen hundreds of times, and she falls in love with MC because that's what those characters do. We know that she was a Soviet experiment who had never gone to school because the author masterfully wove these details into the story by having one side character tell another that she was a Soviet experiment and she herself told her mental image of Denji that she hadn't been to school either. The bit where she sings a russian lullaby to herself after she kills a man in self-defense sure looked cool, but it also looked cool in the past 30 movies that used that exact scene, and they put slightly more thought into establishing that back story than literally that scene and a passing comment reinforcing it at the very end.
