I like that the magic tools are risky for the bad guys to use. It was already established in the first chapter with the portal magic that kills anything living that tries to go through it. It's imperfect and fits their gimmick of trying to take and control power that doesn't belong to them. In the Oneshot Merrily has basic healing magic, enough to stabilize herself after she's shot, and Nona here hasn't made a big deal about being shot in the arm, but I reckon Mira-Mira was told to apply some first aid when they captured Nona.

You're right with regards to animanga, but weirdly enough I don't think this distinction exists much among people who read and write western literature. For them, especially the authors, it's just "magic systems". It could be incredibly specialized, or incredibly broad. It could have distinct name within the setting, or just literally be called "magic". But in western literature it's all just magic.

Since I like both I always think of things like chakra/jutsu in Naruto, Zanpakutō and Kido in Bleach, Alchemy in FMA, and even Devil Fruits as magic systems. Yet somehow that doesn't feel appropriate to a lot of people when discussing anime and manga.

It's a case of being overly faithful to Japanese. "That's my mother's name" would be more natural in English, but Japanese has a lot of instances where it doesn't use pronouns like English does and sticks the name in there instead. Evident if you watch anything subbed, lots of instances where the VAs say [character name] but the subs just use you/he/she because repeating character names isn't appropriate in English. The line with the name in it sounds natural to Japanese audiences and here the translator chose to stay close to it.
