Sweet Mask isn't as nearly as ugly as he should be. The entire point of his design was that it was completely and entirely repulsive. Not just "generic monster man".

One thing that really stood out to me when I reread the manga is how Flash feels like an entirely different person between the webcomic and the manga. Murata turned him into this long-haired twink with sparkly hair clips and high heels, while in the webcomic he’s just a cold, efficient assassin, blunt, ego-driven and almost robotic in how little humanity he shows.
This is just one example, I can go on forever.

The only thing the webcomic is missing imo is the Garou vs the A class fight, and we know without a shred of doubt that was ONE's work since he posted storyboards.

Yeah, he's supposed to be truly inhuman and monstrous-looking, with protrusions all over his body, which then contrasts with how his expressions and body language make him look just sad and harmless, with even his attempt to "crush" Saitama's head not being depicted with any impact.
Murata's interpretation just has him look like Darkshine with burns on his face, which fundamentally doesn't work. He barely looks monstrous here, making the crowd look even shallower than they're supposed to be.

Everyone in the manga seems like an entirely different character. Something about Saitama's expressions and way of speaking is off. Metal Bat just being this weird "let me explain the themes so it's obvious" character is silly and then immediately going "muh sister." Everyone in the manga just seems goody two shoes, there's no room for characters to have different personalities. I feel like even A is going to get a redemption arc later on. I can totally see it, Ryumon beats him to an inch of his life then extends a hand saying "we should be better heroes A-kun" then A smiles and stands up with him. Textbook murata writing. You know what I forgot to mention is why this personality thing pisses me off the most - it totally fucks one of the core morals later in the story. In 155 it's literally explained in dialogue that there's no one definition of a hero and people can be heroes for different reasons with different ideas and personalities. Like Bofoi who is this data driven almost robotic man still ends up being heroic by protecting the hero association. The fact that the S class heroes DO have different personalities (see: metal bat) and that they end up being heroic despite this is kind of the entire point. When everyone is a goody two shoes it makes this whole point less impactful

Keeping him partially handsome comes off more as him clinging onto vanity rather than retaining his humanity. Much like how Garou could never truly become a full monster, Sweet Mask's obsession with image and public relations are at odds with his own sense of justice, so unless he was secretly very handsome and had a complex about it, his "true" form shouldn't be like that.
