So he created Sasuke and Sakura, and was able to break his writer's block. Subsequently he kept teasing things between Naruto and Sakura because people liked the love triangle, and keeping people guessing whether Naruto or Sasuke would get trophy girl Sakura kept more people entertained and engaged than would abandoning all pretense that Naruto would end up with someone other than Hinata.
