I think this is an incredibly significant factor people are going to completely overlook. Beatbreak is the first DIgimon season that doesn't have a toy attached to it. Otherwise, a pretty good episode, though it does feel like it wasn't quite worth a two-parter. It mostly seems to be like that to facilitate further use of the setting for Tomoro's character development and to have a scene of Kyo doing spy shit. But it lacks the kind of overall heft you'd expect from a two-parter. Not for nothing people were expecting an evolution this episode.

Episode 6 was really great. Not quite sure if this or episode 3 is my favorite, but either way, Beatbreak is so much fun. I was ... 70% surprised we didn't get an evolution. I did think there was a significant chance that Gekko would not evolve, but I was more surprised that Pandamon lived.
At this point, I think Gekkomon won't evolve until near the end of the first cour. Not sure what major plot event will trigger the evolution.

I would've put the first confrontation with Astamon outside the digital zone, so it feels less like they're pausing and resuming the same fight. Then some sort of environmental factor could've given the enemy a more natural reason to retreat.

Do Digimon need to fuse in order to evolve? I'm a Digimon newfag who's only seen Applimonsters (which you mostly all hated for deviating so much, also being non-furry wwww) where strictly all evolutions were fusions. The evolution diagrams on the Digimon wiki sort of show an interconnected tree, rather than the linear Pokemon style, that weakly suggests Digimon works like that. I was half expecting the ultimate sharing half to lead to a Gekandermon (Super), presuming this is how it works, although it's probably far too early to do that after only a few episodes. Generally No, but there are some specific mons that are fusions.
Digimons are originally V-pets that can evolve into whatever depending on how you raised them, but the anime gives the protags and their mons mostly linear lines with a handful of exceptions.
In the v-pets once a digimon evolve they stay in that form permanently untill they either evolve again or die and reinvarnate so you can raise it from scratch to try and get it to evolve into something elss.
Being able to devolve and evolve willy nilly is mostly an anime thing though some games emulate that to varying degrees.
The branching evolutions are more a thing in the games and v-pets.

Like hell it has. The only interesting thing about the season for now is expectation of the new server having fuck all to do with it but that discussion has been put on ice until the anime actually gives us something about it. Threads having been 90% filled with discussion about Renamon and Wolvermon. Well, since EP 4, the tomboy girl too. Everything else ammounts to "well, lets wait and see". Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the slow pace is bad per se, just that the season is empty af. Makoto is nonexistant, Tomoro turned into the worst MC ever despite the high initial potential, then we have the season's Sakura and Kyo who is actually cool but still is the mystery nigga. Gekkomon is hard carrying it so much its unreal. So for now we have to wait until Makoto turns into a real character, Tomoro stops being a little dumb shit, Sakura stop jobbing and being annoying and for Kyo and his glow niggers buddies to show their hands.

Nah I disagree with a lot of what you said, I really like Tomoro.
You can tell the people who watch a lot of year-long Toei shows for a younger audience (Kamen Rider, Precure, etc) and the ones who are tourists.
Beatbreak has an absolutely fine pacing for this part so far, it always starts like this with vague discussions early in the year before the show creates more lore and context to debate on.

Showing those kind of places and incidents will help to paint a better picture of the world long-term, this is the ideal part for those kind of episodic stories, and from the "Cleaner" concept it was obvious that we were going to get some.
Still, unlike Ghost Game that were purely episodic and nothing else, Beatbreak shows glimpses of plot and it feels like it relates to the character's journey.
