Ask for references or at least contact details from previous landlords and call them and ask why the prospective roommate moved out of his previous place. This will save you a lot of trouble later.

People usually meet them through social networks or with their friends ime. You can put an ad out if you have no other options, but in my opinion someone you even just know through someone else is better.

I don't know but if you you do, do NOT share your dishes with them. Hoard that shit like gold in your room. Anything publicly touchable will get shittified and covered in mold and puke and god knows what else in the sink unless you end up the politest little clean freak on earth somehow.
