Why can't I play video games anymore? I keep coming back to try every few weeks or every month but I still get bored within an hour or two? My only other hobbies are watching wrestling and anime so how the fuck am I supposed to just watch they two all day? Anyway, why have I got bored with games?

In the same boat for fuck all it's worth. Vidya doesn't interest me the older i get.

I think it has too do with the social aspect. When you're a young retard games are fun because you naturally make friends with the other young tards. Now you're old and everyone is using discord and using retarded new slang that you don't get or just flat out hate.

This obviously doesn't apply to SP shit, but i've yet to really figure out where SP really fits in to all this.

Yeah, haven't really pinned down what causes it, but i've noticed the same shit as i've gotten older. Even SP games just bore the fuck out of me as i've gotten older.

Only thing i can think of is just the fact that your reflexes are noticeably slower even just in you mid/late 20s compared to in your teens. It takes the fun out of things when playing games makes you feel like a geriatric.

What sort of shit did you used to play?

well in my case I need to force me to watch stuff like podcasts or other long format content that is a lot of nothing going on because I got used to hyper edited videos that shorten them to make them interesting throughout the whole thing
but I can still enjoy a slow movie or a plot heavy videogame
I always considered wrestling trailer park trash enterteinment so I never gave it a try and I never will but isn't it two dudes jumping into a ring and hitting each other?
it's like skipping the whole getting drunk and looking at each other funny all night at a bar and jumping directly to the funny and choreographed fight isn't it.

Even with low intensity shit it seems to hit. Part of me wants to blame youtube. Among all the retarded trends, one of them was the fact that you can watch a game butts to nuts and basically get everything you would have by actually playing it, on top of good commentary if you pick the right channel. There's still some that just have to be actually played like papers please, but a lot of them you can just get away with watching.

Same. I get like short burst of video gaming session once in a while and play for long hours, otherwise I can't enjoy vidya. Even on ADHD stimulant meds I can't enjoy them. And I'm 22.

First off, I think people who talk about reflexes dropping don't know what they're talking about. Stuff like that is such a minimal thing that it won't affect you unless you have late stage parkinsons and are 65 years old.

I think for me personally its a bit of time commitment + choice paralysis. Being in my mid 30s now i have a lot less freetime then i did 10 to 20 years ago. While there certainly are vidya I like to play but I feel like I can't justify playing or making any progress if im not spending at least 3-4 hours on it, and if I dont get that then whats the point when I could rather watch a show or something else. the choice paralysis always hits me and I feel like I have to get motivated to play something specific, that thing usually changing from week to week. might be a depression/lack of motivation issue instead but having a large library of stuff I could play through from like a 30+ year timespan feels daunting.

Try playing tactical D&D mods. It's really the ultimate challenge in the D&D realm. There is nothing else out there. No other game, definitely not the newest release, and no other Baldurs Gate 2 mod either. SCS simply doesn't cut it if you are looking for a challenge.
I uploaded a few videos here if anybody wants to have a taste, the mod is called Improved Anvil:

I'm in the same boat. Like once a year I'll get addicted to Skyrim and play it every night for three months straight. Other than that I can't really stomach vidya anymore.

Same, it's brainrot. I think it's a real mental problem. I'm at a point where if games take too much energy even to open, how am I ever going to be opening a book and doing something intellectual

Games take up a lot of time. It used to be the norm that most games could be beaten within a few days, maybe a week. RPGs were the exception. Now most games are longer than ever which takes the fun out of it and turns it into busy work.

Younger people process time differently than adults. Children also don't have jobs. When you were a kid playing games, you could sink hours into playing games because they were shorter, you didn't recognize how much time was being used, and all you had to worry about was school.

Now that you're an adult, you can process time properly. And it turns out that time is precious. The interactive nature of games makes it more of an investment than watching television or Youtube which means to a certain degree, it is work.

You're getting older and your brain is realizing that vidya is a surrogate activity and waste of time. Also if you game too much you can no longer effectively downregulate and gaming will simply never ever be fun again because you burnt out those neuropathways.

What do you play, OP?
A lot of games I enjoyed when I was young are riddled with things that I just don't have the patience for nowadays.
For instance, too much down time is a killer for me. If I'm not actually playing half the time I find myself wondering why I'm not just watching netflix or youtube
