I had a hard time getting a job after college, so when I finally got offered a position doing support work for a local company, I leapt in without looking.
Without revealing too much, I think I made a mistake. The exact industry the company is in is pretty morally offensive to me, it exploits people's worst tendencies and their desperation in order to turn a profit - I understand every business has to make money, and the person I did my interview with tried to preempt this exact situation with the typical mealy-mouthed "oh we're a family here" or "I sleep fine at night knowing what we do", but it's been harder and harder to ignore how exploitative and disgusting their business and business practices are.
There's also just no respect in the company. The C-suite executives talk shit about the managers behind their backs, the managers talk shit about the normal employees (me) behind our backs, and we talk shit about the people below us behind their backs too. The person I interviewed with, again, demonstrated this in our very first meeting where he (maybe off the record, maybe "jokingly") said my direct supervisor (who I hadn't met) kinda sucked at his job and I might one day take his job if I stuck with the company. Really scummy stuff like that.
I also feel like I'm just not a good fit for the job. The reason I got the job so suddenly is someone on the team I'm on left and there was a gap that needed to be filled ASAP. I have some experience in the job I'm doing, but not much. The work I enjoy doing is completely off limits to me, and I think it's made me a pretty apathetic and unhappy worker.
At this point, I think I'm going to put in my two weeks' notice on Monday. I do have some other stuff lining up, but I do not have another offer at this very moment. Money is not an issue. I still would rather leave. I'd be the first to admit I lack knowledge of the "real world", though, so is this a reasonable thing to do? Would you quit my job if you were me?
