My friend was browsing the 4chan archive, instead of normal 4chan, and he found illegal content. He clicked on it to check if it was in fact illegal, and if so, to report it.

He clicked on all of them, because he didn't want to file a fake report. (He suspected it was just some trolling, he said you couldn't judge from the thumbnail)

But now he's scared he may get in trouble, because he had to click on them to check.

He didn't download anything or save anything at all.

He did in fact file a report for every file.

Could he be in trouble? He's very scared. He's a law-abiding citizen.

so for how many minutes did your "friend" look at the images while "inspecting" if they were illegal?
you do know images do save on temporary folders on the pc even if you don't save them somewhere else right? do you think when you click on an image and it loads it doesn't store them somewhere on your pc for it to show it to you?

Usually they're more concerned with creation and distribution anon.
Too many fish in that pool. Theyre not going to waste 3 seconds on a guy who viewed stuff vs. Someone who's either actively uploading it, or on kik trying to get it from minors.

"Clicked the image" is at the bottom of that totem poll. If ever you even browsed a 4chan page while an illegal image was posted in one of the thumbnails, guess what? It means your computer downloaded it in order to display it to you.

Every last stinking one of us would be guilty if that was the threshold. Don't save the image. Don't ask kids for nudes. Don't upload illegal images, and if you're this worried about clicking on an image, then get off the website entirely because the very fact the images were on his screen means its in his temp files. (And Im guessing your "friend" is you).

no. you don't get in trouble for recognizing illegal content and immediately reporting it. you get in trouble for distributing content. full stop. you cannot prove lascivious intent (necessary for sex crime prosecution) from just seeing the material

No, the party van is headed to your friend's house as we speak. Good thing it's your friend and not you though, right? Haha
