When a woman is smitten with me, I am pushed away and put off. I want an out. I’ve read this is an attachment style issue.

Can such a thing even be fixed?

Probably. Have you looked at the types to see where you think you land? Maybe looking at some of the material that goes in depth on the behaviors of someone with that attachment style, and then counseling methods for it might help out. You could seek out a therapist if you were inclined, or just attempt to figure things out on your own. Good luck either way.

I am avoidant. I don’t feel comfortable about therapy or counselling but I have people in my life who I trust and will talk to about it.

Get ahold of the material, get somewhere starting there. Therapy makes me uncomfortable too. Understandable

I felt the same way and I still don't just fall in love with a woman. I also felt like I can't love.
My best advice is to get to know someone and befriend them first. When you see that you're alike then you'll actually start loving. Have fun
