im 24 and kind of retarded. i recently decided to be a big boy and stop fucking around in life and get a career (i work a shitty wagie job) im thinking about becoming an electrician via the IBEW. i made this decision because i assess that im fairly retarded and dont have faith in myself doing something more mentally complex. IT/programming jobs as far as im aware are just increasingly outsourced or full of pajeets and other white collar stuff im probably just too stupid to do. i also cant really afford to take the time to go to school and don't want debt. does anyone have personal or secondhand experience to give reasons why i should/shouldn't go for this path or suggestions of what else i could do?
you're already doing better than most people, if you're jealous about white collar jobs, don't be. that's all going to be replaced by AI in a couple years time and it softens you up like hell. doing something relating to manual labor will always be reliable in the future, this is a symptom of working smarter despite you saying that you're retarded
You're essentially picking your poison for what career you want to go into. Each one has different challenges. You may say being an electrician would be easier, but you'll now have to have the stress of going up on a wires working on circuits.
>>33273282 (OP)Do you like getting electrocuted?
Don't be arrogant before you go in. Expect to suck if you never worked in three dimensions or constantly need to make judgment calls without hard fast rules
>>33273282 (OP)No personal experience but a lot of my siblings went into the building trades (I went into accounting due to a physical disability). They did just fine and I'll be outsourced long before they are.
This is the ONE thing NOBODY lies about. Teehee.
Giving a bump because I'm looking into the same thing through IBEW if I can swing it. I've found some apprenticeship programs through schools that aren't going to break the bank I may consider if it's worth it.
There are very few electricians that arent retarded. If you take a genuine interest in electrical systems and the physics involved and you watch youtube videos about electricity in your spare time you will become a top 1% electrician. Almost all of them are literal wire pulling monkeys.
