I've been trying to get a job at this grocery chain I used to work for.

On the application, they have a question that asks if I have ever been convicted of a crime, and if so, to provide a couple details of the conviction. Like what state, what year, what county, what the crime was, etc.

I have a misdemeanor from 20 years ago, and I have a feeling that they are rejecting my applications because of that. I've applied to like 30 different positions in many of their stores around my area. Each and every single one of them has been promptly rejected.

Do you think it's because I said yes to that question about the conviction?

What should I do about this?

Because, I don't remember that question being there when I last worked for one of their stores just over 8 years ago.

Any advice?

This world is too technologically advanced for you to pull off what you're thinking of.

I would suggest to start lying. But it's also admirable that you had the willingness of being honest

So would you suggest I just apply to jobs that don't ask that question on their applications?

Apply as much as you can, and, if asked the question, just lie anyway. By all means you need to maximize your number of applications

did you get dropped on your head?
when it asks if you're a criminal, you say: no

>conviction from 20 years ago
>OP is 38+
>trying to get a retail job

The last job I had, they had a third party company do the background check, the third party asked me to list my convictions, then a couple days later, I was hired.

I don't think the hiring people even saw what was on the background check.

Perhaps that is the way

>conviction from 20 years ago
So you're saying it wouldn't even show up on the background check?

Isn't it a felony to lie about your criminal history on a job application?
