I only ever moved within my area and with landlords who owned the properties, apps have been easy. But I'm about to move to a new city. I have savings to live off of for awhile, but no job lined up, hoping to just find something when I get there. But how would I go about applying and securing housing? Would my paystubs matter even if they're from my town and not the city?

Line up a job in your intended destination before doing anything else. Once you have a job offer then you could show the landlord that, or just live in a cheap hotel while you get a place.

I don't know if I can, I will be moving in a couple months and it's a bit far away. I'll have to haul my belongings with me. Maybe I can store them.

So let me get this straight. You're just going to show up in a distant place, with no job, no place to live and a load of belongings. What is your plan - to just walk around the neighborhood of the bus station looking for "Room to rent" and "Boy wanted" signs?

You can too. Don’t know if there’s laws or anything but you can show a bank statement and offer first, last, deposit. If you have enough for six months, they probably won’t care. It helps to say that you have a relative that could bail you out. Seedy motels are secretly homeless shelters. You save tonnes by paying weekly instead of per night.

I have enough saved I could live the whole year's lease. But it's about meeting the requirements to apply. I'm in a bad living situation and don't have much time on my side,
