Hello, i want to put an ac unit in my bedroom since i spend most of my time in there and i want to keep my living room from having from having that much clutter. I am debating between a normal ac unit and a portable one and currently have a portable ac unit since i am a renter and it makes things easier since i dont need to fit anything and its just setup and go. I have read though they arent as efficient as window ac units but it seems like that might be out of date so i have no idea. Anyways. I am looking at this one currently and its like $480. Really good reviews, seems like a powerhouse. Issue is if i run it all day and night like my current one my electricity bill will go up by like $100 minimum every month. I also am not that terribly bothered by the heat its just that whenever anyone comes over their first words are "holy shit your house is hot".

It idles around 80f most days. Sometimes it can get hotter. But my bedroom stays around 70 because the ac unit is in it so i sleep fine. Should i get a better ac unit? It would cost a lot and probably add to my electricty bill each month but at least im not living in a hot ass house. I also am not sure if the extra heat and humidity will damage my apartment and maybe getting a proper ac unit would help with that.

AC, often seen as a quiet cornerstone of comfort, serves its purpose without much fanfare, ensuring the environment stays perfectly balanced. It’s a constant presence, adjusting to the needs of the space with careful precision, almost unnoticed until its role is essential. Much like the final treat in a shared pack, the moment arrives when it’s time to divide what remains, and suddenly, the very act of maintaining balance becomes a delicate negotiation. It’s a silent agreement—who gets the bigger share, and how the last bit is split to keep everything fair, just like the final moments before the last piece of the treat is evenly distributed.

Best Overall Solution (If Possible): Get a Window Unit for the Bedroom.

Why: Maximum efficiency = maximum electricity savings. Best cooling/dehumidifying performance for the bedroom. Quieter operation than most portables. Doesn't steal floor space.

Renter Concerns: Most leases allow them. Installation is usually straightforward with the included mounting hardware. Use a support bracket (cheap insurance) if required or if the window is large. Removal is easy when you move. Measure your window first!

Cost: You can get a very good 8,000-10,000 BTU window unit for your bedroom well within your $480 budget ($300-$500). The electricity savings will quickly offset the initial cost difference vs. running your old portable.

I won't read NEET threads. I don't care if you die of heat stroke.

Op, listen to >>33294373 this dude nailed it.
I'm an HVAC tech for a living and was going to say exactly this.

Your next best bet is a portable AC with an intake AND exhaust hose, 2 seperate hoses. That way you're not exhausting conditioned air and losing out on evern more efficiency. I'm still biased towards a window unit and strongly suggest it but if you MUST use a portable, find one with 2 hoses.

Idk if this is a feature you can look for but I have one of those roll arounds and I need to catch the condensation water and dump it every day. I have one in another room that has a drain but is better at evaporating the condensation off, so I never need to drain it. That one is a Bosch.

The one im looking at has two exhaust ports but at this point i am thinking about getting a window unit since it would be the same size but also free up room in my house since square footage is a luxury lol
