I grew up in the west and have been living here for several decades now and am alarmed by the rise of racism against in these last few years. Before it seemed people had positive to no opinions about us and now you log onto twitter or browse 4chan and everyone here wants to kill us. It's just been really jarring to see people complain about us because I'm not exactly high status myself and I don't do well in other areas of my life. I fail in everything I try and I'm getting raked over the coal with my personal life as well. So it hurts extra to see the hate towards us online.

all through the 80s and 90s the stereotype of Indians was short circuit or apu, low wage clerks, you could openly in public or at your job do the voice and no one would care

in the 2000s sihks literally got shot and beaten up for being confused with being Muslim and no one cared at all

right now the stereotype is you are IT guys and the only allowable hate is on Internet forums

there has literally never been a time more accepting of Indians in America in my lifetime than right now

Well then you gotta understand that this is just human nature and grow a thicker skin about it. If you’ve known eachother can tell people in your life are judging you by your ethnicity either stop caring about their opinion or prove yourself to them. As it stands there’s a lot of momentum behind this push of Indian hate in America, so you’re not going to be able to change anything on a higher level, but if you live genuinely, work hard to be valuable, and then internally know you’re valuable, it shouldn’t matter how outsiders judge. I’m fat, it’s something I can change and I’m working on it (down 30 lbs) but people judge my competency by it implicitly. So, I just do a better job than them while staying humble and helpful, and they tend to stop viewing me as a statistic. Most American’s interactions with Indians are bad, our impression of their culture is bad, what we see in the media about them is bad. Be useful and courteous and you won’t be bad.

I don't think there's a particular level of hate towards Indians, it's just that social media amplifies things that get clicks, and the current milieu is to talk about race and racism a lot, whether positive or negative.

Personally, my only major issue is the accent. Indian English is atrocious, ngl. Fix that and you're all set. And honestly, the next generation, growing up in America in middle class neighborhoods with white and east Asian friends, learning American social norms and beauty standards and upper middle class American English, they're doing great.

The terrible hygiene, scamming and all kinds of gang rape in the news along with swarming areas with indian immigrants when the people already there were already struggling isn't going to do much good for PR or reputation.
