How realistic is it for a guy to achieve pic related?
How long would it reasonably take to achieve the standing splits from nothing?

Well I'm 32 years old, about 5'10" and 72.8kgs. I admit I do sit around on my computer all day, but I have started exercising in my room a few weeks ago. Just doing bodyweight exercises 3 times a week that focus on my legs, but I'm going to start doing 4 times a week, trying to get them treetrunk thighs. as for flexibility, I'm decently flexible for someone who doesn't do stretches. I can easily touch me toes and touch anywhere on my back but that's about it, I can't do the splits.

Men's bodies are not built to allow that.

Thanks for the info. I have done stretching at home but I'm no expert, and I've neglected it for the past year (always intending to get back into it). I too can touch my toes while standing and I'm older than you. LOL. I can only do the front splits about halfway down - that is, butt not yet on the floor. I followed this YT channel for a while and he is a veritable encyclopedia on the topic of stretching and body weight strength building. I don't know if he ever did the standing splits in any of his videos, but if anyone would know the answer to your question, he would:

Depends a lot on genetics. Standing splits involve a few different skills, not just flexibility. Personally I have no interest in doing that because it's just unsightly for men. It also may not be possible for men, given the hip joint insertion. Also something to keep in mind: there's a tradeoff to pushing for greater range of motion. More flexibility means less static joint stability and less strength as a result. Stretching isometrically (where you're holding a position with muscle strength) is the best way to get there, but it's a lot harder than just being a yoga bitch.

You shouldn't aim for this. Your ligaments are more valuable being springy and resistant than loose. Aim for strength, not flexibility.

I could do the front splits after one month on continuous stretching, but I stopped practising after that, so I think I can't do it anymore.
Not sure about standing splits, but it would take much longer.
