How do I actually force myself to draw? I've been wanting to draw for nearly 2 years now and have barely made any progress towards that goal. I've only done one Loomis face like 2 years ago and haven't done any exercises or line work since then. I've been trying to get myself to draw, but all of it looks too complicated and exhausting for me. I've tried multiple different strategies, but they never seem to work. I've tried forcing myself to draw, but can only make myself draw circles for barely 30 seconds before stopping and looking at my phone again.

I've got a couple of drawing books and a drawing tablet for my PC and barely touched them.

You need to start off small before delving into complicated things like gesture and loomis heads. It's like you're starting a new game at the final boss when you don't even have the controls down or know the mechanics so you get frustrated and quit. If you don't have the basics down it'll create some bad habits and you won't understand what's going on. I know it's not exciting but this is the process for learning literally anything.
Start off with pencil and paper first so that you're not even at your computer. Put on a movie or sit outside— somewhere comfortable— and do exercises like lines, ellipses, drawabox, whatever. Make a game out of it.
Start off small too. You rack disciprine, but that's a muscle you can train. Set a timer to draw for 5 minutes and see how that feels. Then gradually up the time as your discipline grows.

Most beneficial thing would be to get a teacher or mentor who can assign and plan lessons for you to do, and will keep you accountable.

I don't know how to make myself do Drawabox for more than thirty seconds before I get bored and stop trying and look at my phone or lay in bed again. My ADHD doesn't allow me to get into hyper focus and I can't get into a flow state even when I'm on medicine.

Oh for fuck's sake. Yeah I've heard this a million times for every single hobby I've ever tried. I like the idea of doing anything besides sitting in my room, laying in bed, jerking off and going to sleep or looking at my phone and staring at a wall while barely being able to get out of bed. Am I seriously raising the bar too high? Is that what you're telling me?
Then am I not interested in anything at all? Because this is what it's like for everything that I've ever tried doing even for non creative hobbies or just anything in general.
I have literally tried doing several artistic hobbies and gave up each of them immediately when I was a teenager.
>Gave up on Source Filmmaker
>Gave up on GameMaker
>Gave up on FireAlpaca
>Gave up on Photoshop
>Gave up on writing
I didn't know how any of them worked or what to do. I don't even know basic trig. Even when I look art guides, I literally cannot comprehend them or figure them out. I don't want to be stuck with no creativity or being unable to express myself. This is what it's like for literally everything I try doing. I'm not able to try and keep up with any hobby. Even writing, I do it sporadically and very rarely. Stop giving me this reductionist bullshit.

My ADHD doesn't allow me to get into the flow state like everybody else does. Even on medicine, I can't make myself do ANYTHING.

I'm not here to get attention, I'm not here because I "secretly don't like drawing" I'm here because I want to fucking draw. Now are you going to give me advice or not?

38fag with adhd. Been doing this awhile.

Protip; its not just rhe drawing. Its what else you do with your day and what you eat. Healthy fats (like from yogurt, eggs, fish, avocado. Omega 3s are king) and high quality protein are key to keeping your brain on track.
Then other shit like, if you spend a lot of your day on your phone you're basically gonna lose all ability to do low stimulating activities like drawing.

Try being phone/electronics free the first 4 hours of your day. Even the first 30-60 minutes is better than nothing.

Im >>33377184

This isnt true. At all. Hyperfocus is absolutely a quality of adhd. Its just a lot more complicated.
I feel you, man. Similar struggles. Its an uphill fight. But you can do flowstates.

I personally found embracing being multiskilled was the best. Youre built that way. To keep learning.
All these things youre learning come back again, crossover and combine into larger things.

Like I met my wife and she was a small business owner and I ended up using like 2 past skills from short lived projects to boost her business and quadruple her income, and Im considered am extremely handy person and make a lot of side money doing little jobs here and there.

Thats what you're designed to do. Id focus more on establishing a time for hobbies. Like 7pm to 10pm or whatever, thats time to work on fun creative projects. Other than that dont worry what that is or what's currently catching your eye. Enjoy the dabble. Its better than you think it is.

But definitely dont think you cant do flow states. If you cant do flow states thats a dopamine burnout tik tokked tf out issue. Those things are Venus fly traps for us.

SAYING "Just do it" is useless I agree, you yourself have to go do it.
The fact that you don't isn't your ADHD, it's either a complete and utter lack of accountability or your profound retardation; seeing how you have the time and resources to make this thread a hundred times a month you have the time and resources to do ANYTHING ELSE, but choose not to.
That's not ADHD, that's you actively choosing to wallow in self pitty on 4chan instead of using your time efficiently. You're doomed until you break that cycle.

You have it really hard with all your conditions. It's not easy for you. It's amazing you managed to draw a few times now. Take things at your own speed and don't be too hard on yourself. Draw when you feel like it. Don't push yourself mentally too much.
You got this. It's amazing you managed to draw in the past. You can repeat this. It will happen!
How big is the fear of you not drawing again? Are you able to increase that fear? Harness the fear. Ride on its back.
The apathy makes it hard to feel anything, right? You are in a state of depression and that is making you not drawing or feel the fear of rotting away and not doing anything.
Tell me about your past. Has it always been like this? Or was there a starting point when the apathy set in?
What are your current living arrangements? What is the place like where you drew last time? Can you describe that desk?
You are a writer, right? Describe the place you were drawing at.
It's not easy for you. And it is, honestly, really mean how you were called names in the past. What would be name we should call you instead of the slurs people have given you?
Helping you requires learning about you. You're a human and you deserve being heard.
I'm trying to help you by understanding you a bit better. I can understand your point that you need help. It's, honestly, great that you're seeking help from people. There's lots of people who won't even reach out in the first place. I don't want to call you Howie because that would be insulting.
Is there currently a piece of paper near within reach near you?
It's fine. Starting art is a very daring thing. I'm glad you're reaching out. I'll be here for you.

Yes they do. Just less.
And you've chosen too many high dopamine activities you have to limit abd block distractions.
Phone, 4chan, fb, tik tok.. cut these out, and you'll find lower stimulating activities are far more engaging.

Man I don't know how old you are but im making an assumption youre younger. I feel terribly for ADHD people.who grew up in this environment.

I used to read books, make music, video edit, animate.. all these things youre complaining you cant and this flow state you say you don't have, I could do. Then I got a phone, and that was all down the fucning toilet for years. But at least I knew what the problem was.

Theres a bunch of adhd kids now who grew up with all this shit and never built that baseline now all sitting there thinking "oh this doesnt give me dopamine" not understanding that yes, it does, but scrolling on 4chan provides 20 times more, and if you do it too much your brain Will restructure and all that low impact shit is gonna be boring. Thats just how your brain works.

Thing is, if works both ways. You eliminate or seriously isolate all these high stimulating apps and activities to specific times of day (or better yet, none at all) and your brain will down regulate, it will take less dopamine to stimulate, and then these lower activities like drawing and whatever other project youre working on suddenly become a lot more engaging.

Like #1 adhd coping technique: you have to actually understand the neurology here. You DO get dopamine from EVERYTHING you do. If you had zero dopamine, tou wouldn't even leave bed. Its the motivator. It makes you do everything you do. Its making you *want* to draw even. But the supply is so much louder from your fucking phone and pc so you've got blinders on. And it IS reversible.

Your goals shouldn't be "draw more" it should be "use 4chan less" and the rest comes.

If anything drawing should come naturally to you because you draw when you’re bored. the problem is you don’t draw when you’re bored. you probably do something else like play video games or watch YouTube shorts. Thus, drawing becomes a fantasy that you want to do but can’t because you simply don’t actually like doing it. you can buy all the whatever you want but if you don’t actually like drawing enough to do it in your spare time you won’t get better

Then do I not like anything? Because this is the exact same process for every hobby I've ever tried. I try something, have difficulties, then I give up and stop caring. And every fucking time this happens, one of you people say something like this to me when I try getting help for this. All I can do is stare at walls or look at my phone.

Drawing doesn't come naturally because I don't know what I'm doing the moment I start.

Ive definitely explained enough for you here over multiple posts.. there is no process. You already do it. You try new things and move on. Thats how youre built. The process is "limit your distractions and eliminate shit like phones and 4chan and delete tik tok and Instagram" and "dont worry if you lose interest in shit, just take the lessons and move on.

Two ways, you gotta decide:
1) "I want to do it without help!"
-> Then do it and stop asking for advice.
2) "I can't do it on my own!"
-> Then seek help of medical professionals.

Good job, anon! Now keep doing this until you can do it with your eyes closed and make a deceptively accurate circle! I believe in you anon! Do it every day!; this is the discipline part! It's how you distance yourself from the "how do I get myself to draw" mentality!

Has it really been 3 years that OP has been posting this same thread every day? That’s kind of impressive.

I like the new tactic that is being employed in this thread by that one guy. OP is spamming the same “How do I do that?” in every thread, so the proper response is to span the same reply.

But I also think it’s quite possible that OP is really just trolling. He’s addicted to having people reply to his thread so he just pretends to be helpless.

Get a teacher or take a class— that'll force you to be diligent and focused and externally motivated. If you can't stomach practicing then maybe you don't really want to draw. Drawabox lessons take 5-10 minutes a day. Put in the work, it's the only way. There's no shortcut.

The pictures you posted show that your lines aren't confident and you have too many of them. Exercises like drawing two points and making one solid line between them is a way to fix that. Also the 4-point ellipse exercises. You don't have the control and dexterity with your hands/ arm yet.

Honestly man, just go take a class. It will be leagues better than trying to figure it all out yourself.
