Should I move to a larger city just to meet more people and develop a social life?

Current city: ~20,000 pop, rural/farms, tweakers, country bumpkins.

Proposed city: Minneapolis/St.Paul metro area or suburb. ~2.5 mil pop.

Currently I live with my parents and am paying them $650 per month in rent, which I see as a pretty good deal. However, this town + living with parents is not very conducive to social growth. There isnโ€™t shit to do here, I donโ€™t have any irl friends and I mostly just lay in bed after work. If I moved Iโ€™m not sure what rent would be. I would likely see if one of my old college roommates would be interested in living together again. Definitely higher but not outrageous, maybe like $1200/month depending on location.

The other caveat is that currently I am afforded the ability to work fully remote because I am far enough away from my company office. If I move to the metro, I would likely be expected to come into the office 2 days per week.

What would you guys do in this situation? When I was in college I really didnโ€™t like city living, but if the alternative is not having any friends or being able to meet anyone, it may be worth it.

Try out different areas to find out what you like.
What I do is drive to a new town or part of a larger city and then ride my ebike 30 miles to get a feel of the area.
The I write up my experience in a word document and feed it all into chatgpt.
Chatgpt then helps me figure out what I am missing and where might be the best place for me.
I'm still searching, my whole county has 45k people and I have lived here 16 years.
I'm mostly missing out on the professionals type of people where I live and not a lot dating opportunities. Would be a nice place to live if I had a wife and a couple kids.

It is impossible to meet people in cities if you dont already know them

the only place to actually meet people and develop a social life is in school
if you arent quitting work to go to uni you will be in the same situation in city, you will just be forced sit alone all the time everywhere with no one to open mouth to, especially not women

if you want social life, save up money until you can afford being unemployed for 12 month, quit your job and go to uni again

I formed a social life in my city by joining a bunch of indie rock and metal bands (after 3 months of playing bass guitar).

So that's a possibility.

I am this guy >>33394048
Small town dude that moved to the city to meet people. I made a handful of acquaintances and 0 friends in this city this year. At least in my area prices for everything have gone up and jobs have been drying up quickly.
I think you actually need to be involved like this guy said >>33396121

no it isnt
you have never even owned guitar, playing guitar this quickly is biologically impossible because the finger squish the strings meaning no noise is coming out
and even then actually learning instruments takes decades for people with fully developed brain to the point its nearly impossible

the only way to form a social life in cities is inside of school corridors, there's no other possibility for people who dont already have a social life

quit work, go to school, meet people there

Bruh he could be thick skinned or have played acoustic guitar in the past or wore base gloves.
I met people with a local fighting game community in my city so it is not that insane to meet people from a hobby, but you are right that it is much easier to find friends through school

Hope you like Somali neighbors

And yes, they're in the suburbs too. Not just the cities proper.
