The idea of self improvement when done for the sake of attracting a partner is merely a way to distract a man with trying to reach some unquantifiable "enough" until the point he is too old to do anything about the fact he was lied to. And it's an excellent lie, as it does not have a perceivable end point and so you can be led by the carrot on the stick for as long as necessary. This is also the reason they only list the vaguest of reasons;

By who's metric? I see plenty of assholes with girlfriends, guys who literally beat their girlfriends, so clearly I must be someone's definition of "not an asshole".

Okay, what's "enough" hygiene? Do you mean basic hygiene like showering regularly, brushing my teeth, using deodorant, etc. or do you mean I should have a hefty skincare routine with daily moisturizer, exfoliant, sunscreen, etc?

The first part is a lie, but what of the second? How many is "enough" girls before it gets to the point it's something else? 5 girls? 10? 100? 1000?

The answers to these questions will be just as vague because none of it is genuine advice, it's all just a cheap distraction. They want you to improve, improve, and improve in meaningless ways seeking the mythical "enough" that you will never reach so they don't have to acknowledge the reality that genetics plays a role in it and some people are predisposed to failure, and hopefully by the time you catch on to the fact that they were bullshitting you you'll be 40 and on the verge of killing yourself so that the problem will solve itself.

The self improvement isn't to get you to the "enough" level, it's to instill the belief in yourself through discipline and trackabke metrics to the point that you have some confidence to show yourself to people with a genuine aura

Some people win the genetic lottery, yes. But i was really ugly before i glew up. I was also born poor asf. My life was insanely chaotic but people dont understand life is essentially a test. Once you realize this, you level up, like a pokemon. I was poor asf, ugly, no real oppurtunities, and was born into a family of death. I survived hell and now i live like a king. Life isnt what you make it, its passing tests with grace and humility and letting God upgrade you in ways He sees fit. I can teach you how to reach greatness, but this level of discernment and God-appeasing method is my most valuable treasure. There are no "self help" guides that can teach you this. I might write a book about it and give it away for free. Those who can fathom how to make God, your good Father, happy, impressed, and satisfied that He created you, goodness and mercy will follow you all of your life and mankind will evolve at an amazing rate. He will even help you with things that the church looks down upon. For example i really struggled with my identity and sexuality, and being a lil more feminine than masculine. I was led to content of Link depicted in yaoi, and seeing that healed me. You would think God would smite you for consuming porn, but i didnt beat off or anything. He works in mysterious ways, but now i embrace how i look and thinking about exploring that part of me now. I also dont care what people think because my life is full of respectable accomplishments. Im rambling but hope this helps.

getting laid is not a strong enough motivation. this won't even keep you going for a year.
you improve in every way because you're a man and ambitious. because you want a bigger piece of the pie. because you want to carve your place in society.
you become stronger, smarter, richer, more connected, more dependable, more useful, more dangerous, more respected, because you're driven, mentally strong, and you want more of everything.

and somewhere along the way, you realize women have stopped ignoring you. in fact it's easy to get a gf, then another, then a wife if that's your thing.

getting women is a side-effect of self-improvement, which is the means and the goal.
think fitness. you don't quit going to the gym once you have muscles. you build the habit for life. self-improvement is fitness applied to every aspect of your life.

That's not what *self* improvement is for OP. If you look really hard at that sentence you may find what it is supposed to be for, and I even threw you a lifeline in there.

i never got the intentionality arguments.
if a girl is what got you to start lifting/hygiene/fashion, then that's overall a positive experience and once you look at yourself in a better light, you'll want to keep at it anyways regardless of the original reason to start.
