how do i cope with the reality that humanity (including myself) is largely evil

Try doing some good to balance it all out. Do it for karma and good vibes. Do it just to have something to do.

Distraction and gaslighting yourself

It's a definition problem. Just redefine what's evil and what isn't. Then bam- you're not evil and you can go and do things that align with your moral compass. As for everyone else that's really not a you problem unless you have power. You're basically yelling into the void rn so I assume you have none.
There's always exiting life but it's a real dice roll regarding what's after death. Could be worse, could be better.

Sit by yourself and recall all the bad you've done yourself. Every cuss word, unkind thought, thoughts of evil, bad imagination and selfishness. Get over yourself first.

Humanity is behaviorally evil but not inherently. Good people and cultures exist. If you become one of them, you're helping humanity reach a better future where it becomes largely good.

I won't read rumination about made-up "problems" threads.

Eben if you don't accept nihilism or moral relativism, evil can be done in service of good. That's what most medicine is. Invasive surgery to fix something. Taking small doses of poison to correct and imbalance. Asserting independence from caring parents. Retaliation when someone crosses a boundary.

Experiencing evil is also nessesary to mature. "I can survive evil". Knowing intellectualy is different from first hand experience. I admit evil isn't usually done to cause maturity, but it's one of the benefits.

i dont believe that humanity can overcome its nature. people will gladly harm another person and look past atrocities if they believe they can benefit from it, or just because they receive pleasure from seeing people harmed

Your observation matches my observation and it lines up with my worldview as a Christian. All have fallen short of the glory of God and all need a Savior to rescue and sanctify them.

A life well lived is to obey and strive to be like to one who rescued and loves me.

I hope you find the truth for yourself.
