The local branch of my bank is closing
I’m looking into alternatives for getting cash out if my account.

Is cash back really a thing that a cashier at a grocery store can do if you pay with a debit card? I feel like I’d mention it to the cashier and they’d have no idea what the fuck I’m talking about and I’d slink away in shame. Are they trained to know what that is and how to do it? I didn’t even know that was a thing. Is it still common in 2025?

The only unique benefit of a local branch is the ability to DEPOSIT cash or checks. If you don't need to do those regularly cash withdrawals can be done from any ATM, though cross-branch transactions involve a $2 to $3.50 fee.

Cashback from a debit card can be done at almost any register at a grocery store or department store without a fee though. It tends to have a lower withdrawal limit of $100. As opposed to ATMs that usually max out at $300 or $400 per day.

Nearly all banks will let you take money out of their ATMs using a card from another bank, so if there's a branch of any bank near you, you'll be all right for cash. Post-COVID virtually everyone takes payments via contactless anyway; so there's barely any need for hard currency any more.

Cash-back in supermarkets used to be a thing, but I don't know that they still do it; I don't think enough people use cash any more for them to bother.

In the USA most chain supermarkets will give cashback. Meanwhile your ATM card is good at any other branch of your bank and (for a fee) at any other bank.

You can simply ask the cashier if you can do cash back. Lots of places can do it.

Yes, it is funny that people know and are unaware of different things and we do not know what other people do or do not.

Kinda like what you are saying though, I hear seven eleven can take your cash to put in your PayPal account but the guys at my local do not know.

I’m guessing they frown upon doing so without a purchase

I don't think it's possible to do that without a purchase. Just go to someplace like CVS or Walmart or a chain supermarket and buy something you were going to buy anyway and get cash back. It's a machine with no feelings.

literally who gives a shit? the thread isn't about finding an ATM, it's specifically about cashback at a grocery store when you're paying with a debit card.

You are making a 2016-ass post here where you're whining because no one's talking about your completely different thing the thread wasn't even about
>Dog show going on this weekend if anyone wants to come

Easy there, I was just asking to confirm. It’s not a big deal anyway since I’d be going to grocery stores on a regular basis anyway
