am millennial, krautfag.
moved to a new city for university and was genuinely hoping i'd meet people there who'd have similar interests to me, based on our shared choice for an undergraduate degree (economics). maybe even start a business together or something.
nope. the only people who talked with each other were people from that city who'd already known each other since childhood. only talked to people when they asked me for directions or help with the university's learning platform because for some reason people always peg me for someone who speaks english (which is true but how the fuck can they tell irl kek). i stopped going to classes after the first month; the lecture's contents and exercises were all available online and i don't need someone reading it aloud for me. plus i'm most efficient in my studying when i'm sitting at my desk at home listening to lofi playlists. universities in germany don't have clubs so no way of socializing that way.
had enough of school after a year. i'll switch to an online degree and work on the side and dabble around with a few business ideas.

yeah schooler definitely roped himself. school was his last lifeline and it turned out to be a lie. ivy league lobbyists are trying to get more people to sign up to school by promising that they'll get 6 figure jobs AND pussy there. R.I.P. der schooler

in an interview of a pediatric psychologist, she made a point about how children no longer get to socialize irl. in the past kids from the same neighborhood would randomly walk up to each other in the park or at a playground and start playing together. that's mostly gone now. though i've seen such antisocial patterns in students/young adults for 10 - 15 years, not just 5 like the reddit post suggests. boomers just want to cry about how scary the pandemic lockdowns were.
