Lowering the stakes
I thought being a man in his 30s I'd be too old for this shit but I got a crush on a younger girl I know.
We're going to to meet up at an anime con we met at last year, we live on opposite sides of the country so we've only been texting on IG but we're going to do a group cosplay and she looks FINE in her costume. A true baddie, way out of my league, meanwhile I look like Shrek.
I've been here before and I already know how this is gonna end. She's almost certainly going to reject me, and if it isn't because she doesn't like me it'll be because she's actually a lesbian or "asexual" like so many weird cosplay chicks are these days.
How can I "de-escalate" this in my head, so in the 99% likelihood she shoots me down for some reason I don't get fucked up? How can I trick myself into looking at this in very low stakes terms? I just want to go and have a good time, my sister will be with us too (she knows to wingman for me) so I just want to view this as a chill time with a pretty girl that may lead to something more, and not just walking to the proverbial electric chair of once again getting my hopes with a girl trampled. I'm usually smarter than this but you usually don't get hot cosplaying e-girls falling into your lap every day, and in that costume she looks so damn fine.
