Should I give up on writing and start making art? I live in Romania and I recently got published in a literary magazine. But that didn't make me happy. I'm old, 30. And I just want to be good at something. It's either digital painting or writing in Romanian but people in my county don't really read that much. And I like writing weird fic, which is such a niche that no one will read it.

I don't have any talent in art but it kind of makes me happy sometimes.

Why not doing both? if they're things you enjoy why you have to choose one over the other? Also, you're not old, and if they published you on a magazine someone must be interested. Try writing also in English if you want a larger target.

Why are you writing in Romanian, dude? It's 2025, most people speak English. Even I, an avid reader, mostly read in English, or in languages that aren’t my own, like Italian or Spanish. It’s the best way to pass the time, savor yourself, and, as a bonus, give your brain a playful workout in another tongue.

Ignore my last question. I hadn’t seen the art you posted. Actually, your art isn’t bad, but let’s be honest: AI can create way better art. How would you even monetize that? I think that if we're talking about 3D art made by using Blender, this would be another whole topic, as you would have much more prospect, but 2D artists are being manhandled by AI.

I tried writing in English before and had poor management of my ADHD and couldn't read for the first two decades of my life. Now I managed to start reading but I feel like it's going to be hard picking up....

Honestly, I have a proposal for you. Why don't you translate your book to English? You can use AI or hire someone to translate it for you. I can create a website for free portraying your work (I can host for free using free domains, but if you want a good domain, you'll have to pay it yourself, I'm already giving my free time, I won't give you money as well, lmao). After that, you can market your book on LinkedIn. I think it would be way better than going the 2D artist route.

You said that it was a fiction story. You could use your 2D artist abilities to create maps, items, characters. We could place this on the website, it would be very cool, and have a rich worldbuilding. I think this ability could be used to enhance your power as a write. Don't simply discard all your work like it means nothing, you invested a lot of TIME of your life into doing that. Time is something you can't get it back.
