Financial Independence
Is FI (early retirement) a realistic goal or just a pipedream?
Things I've managed to gather up till now
>A 6 figure job with little associated costs
>Free healthcare
>Free health insurance (90% copay)
>quite a lot of savings

I'm starting to invest in ETFs and Bonds, hoping to reach $800k total.
If it all works out, with a 4% withdraw, I'll be able to maintain a $32k/yr income just from the portfolio...

It feels surreal, man. Like I'm deluding myself with fake numbers just to cope.

My stepdad won $3 million dollars off a scratch lottery ticket. He still works. Chances are you'll get bored with 'retirement' and wanna start working again. Maybe start your own company and be your own boss instead.

Yeah I know a lot of guys like that.
I have my own hobbies, though. So much to learn but there isn't enough time in the day working 8-6.

its doable but either at pretty old age or you have live like a monk and try to save most of your money and then kinda still live like a monk so your money won't be all gone too fast. If you wanma live and have fun then I don't think its a good goal. Also its a path to loneliness. Hard to find a girl eager to do this with you and well if you do achieve it then you will be a free financial idependend and but probably alone most of the time.

if you make more than 60k/yr you were born into bourgeois social relations so there's no point in worrying about it you'll continue to stack paper no matter what while the rest of americans are left with $25 at the end of the month after working two jobs, and university graduates still can't get hired in their own field.

Ways to fi:

Increase salary
Move to tax friendly jurisdiction
Invest

All of the above together for best results. Not unrealistic at all

Worked as a trucker for 2 years getting college creds
got a scholarship, got an Eng degree in Uni
trucked for 2 more years while looking for a job in my field, was also tesching CAD at a MakerSpace
Got a job at my current firm

Saying
>it'll work itself out
is how a lot of guys I know ended up living paycheck to paycheck...
Unless you're born rich, you just don't have the luxury to be that relaxed.
