I have Bipolar 2 and they're saying I need mood stabilizers.
What's the worst that could happen from taking mood stabilizers? I don't want to be on meds but I'm wondering...

Worst that happens is they make you feel dead inside because their whole function is to stabilise and numb your emotions. And the reason that's considered a W is because if you don't take them, the constant oscillating between manic highs & depressive lows will make your emotional state more and more erratic overtime which leads to psychotic breakdowns or worse. And at that point you'd have wished you took the meds.

So just take the meds and stick with them even if they feel like shit at first. Eventually you won't feel like shit on them and things iron themselves out. And remember, neither the bipolar or the meds means you are crazy or fucked up or something. You are more than a disorder and more than just mood regulation.

Aside from what >>33525577
said. They will likely cause weight gain, tremors if depakote, akathisia if antipsychotics, liver/kidney issues, etc. Most of these have black box warnings.

perhaps you are not really bipolar.
Get a second opinion.
Also there's a lot of different stabilizers.
Some of them are horrible.
Good luck anon.
