Potentially stupid life changing decision
>Turning 26
>Late bloomer in pretty much everything
>Sheltered upbrigging
>No carreer prospect
>Aimless
>Considering joining the army

Should I do it, bros? I'm hoping to reinvent myself and potentially gain new skills that could help me later in life but I feel too old and like maybe this is a bad decision.

You ever meet a vet who was happy with their decision? What percentage of people re-enlist?
Especially the older ones with the blown out knees from all the ruck marches.
Don't do it unless you like being miserable

At least go for officer. Being enlisted sucks fucking ass.

the infantry O pipeline is basic, then a year of gagetown assfuckery which you might break during
if i were you, i'd wait to see the 40k signing bonuses being thrown around (unless you wanna get started right now)
a technical trade/occupation will set you up for success after the CAF, because one day, either your body or your mind are going to break and you realize this ain't it anymore
good luck anon, do your research on exactly what you want otherwise you're going to get fucked

There's minimum educational requirements for some trades but as long as you got your grade 12 math, should be good; some trades have required the need for a CFAT or aptitude test
I'm not the best at math either but I managed to make it pretty far in a technical trade

Well most of them are from third-world countries that want the French salaries. Most of the dudes are from Eastern Europe as a consequence. Anyone bellow the Sahara, unless duly justified gets kicked out. Provided that you are from a first world country and are fit, they won't cull you in the initial screening. Though one must have a mind of steel, and a body to match it, as well.

funny story, I used to write too
if you have a degree in English, you could pivot into being an intelligence officer/operator if you wanna do more operational stuff

the training programs differ as you're going to put to a slightly higher standard
depending on which element you pull, you'll be out into various element specific courses
I can only personally speak to the army, where we get a bunch of leadership and combat leadership training; your basic is an extra month long
I think your background in English and communication will help you with planning and reading lots of documents

I am currently in as officer. It is a solid base for a career via military or if you want to just get experience and get out with some benefits n shit.

Don't go army though. That is dumb. And don't enlist. I wouldn't recommend it and many others feeel the same. Go coast guard, air force, space force, and if you can't get those then maybe navy or army.

In addition, go for something that isn't combat arms and has skills that can transfer. For example, Intelligence is peak. HR is ok. Anything tech related is really good.

26 is fine, it's pushing 30 where it's rough, though there are people who even join at 40+. I would go now though since you'll at least be around other early 20's for the most part and it won't be too much of an age gap to be unbearable. You'll likely find other newbies around your age as well given the current job and economic market.

There's lots of people talking out their ass in this thread because a lot of them didn't even join, or they chose the wrong mos and landed in the wrong unit. The army has over a million people so it's gonna be different based on where you go.

I've joined myself and it's the best choice I ever made. Sure there's the benefits but I was an absolute POS before joining. I had no prospect in life, nothing going on at all, ran out of money so barely eating anything.

Then I enlisted and got a signal MOS. The training has its good parts and it's bad parts. Same applies when you're at the unit you end up with. But the biggest thing to me was just having the structure to go by. If you have no fucking clue how to square your life away you'll learn how in the army.

I can't speak for officers but if you go nat guard you'll still go through training like normal army, you'll still get your tuition and certification assistance, you'll still get your VA home loan at the end of your 6 years.

All of that is enough to give you the opportunity to take your life back like I did. Last bit of advice, try to get an aviation unit. Life there is squishy af.

Pursue OCS, be an officer. I've known a number of guys who served from every branch, many enjoyed it and look fondly on it, especially ones whose careers lined up with their interests and allowed them to develop new skills. You can use it to pursue you're interests, an example would be Paul Harrell (RIP) who would start every video with his marksmanship awards. Many cool jobs, if you find something you love you won't regret doing it (although I do know one marine who stated that everything he enjoyed doing outside of the marines like camping and scuba diving he hated while he was a marine). I know many that have described their time in as the best and worst time of their lives though, make sure you know what you're getting into maybe post on /meg/ on /k/. And for what its worth, Navy and Army would be my last choices based on everyone I spoke to unless you're an officer.

At least in the Army it varies wildly by MOS, probably because post-army civilian employment varies wildly.
As 11B or combat arms in general, you're unqualified to do pretty much anything as a civilian.
As a diesel engine mechanic, the employment picture is a little different.
