no. search for a work that you are willing to do and tell your manager youre going to take care of that. proactively choosing your own work instead of letting them pick for you

If you're new, absolutely. If you've been there for a while you should know what to do and what tasks to move onto and when to do them. In that case don't ask, just find a way to look busy.
