I feel like 4chan hasn't been relevant for a long time, but I'm not sure why I keep coming back.

Why do you think you keep coming back to this place?

I don't need to think about why, I already know why I keep coming back. It's because it's familiar as shit, a habit, one I've been doing since 2005-2006. I joined because of the HabboHotel raids, you retards seduced me into coming to this site twenty years ago and now I'm stuck.

Because I'm really lonely so the pressure free social interaction is quite addictive. Also, I'm (un)consciously avoiding a really important task that I couldn't get started yet due to my crippling perfectionism.

4chan's metrics are declining in general, why do you think they got rid of IP counters? Most of the threads and posts nowadays are schizos spamming the same thing over and over. 4chan has no relevance any more, in large part because of the election tourists who've destroyed the site's culture over the past decade. We have no influence, no creativity, no humor. We are destined to rot away until the server costs finally outweigh the generated ad revenue and hiro pulls the plug. The sooner the better, quite frankly.

i like it because i can just talk about stuff without worrying about it being publicly logged and tied to everything else i've done on the internet in an easily searchable and indexable way

one time i accidentally left my username in a game screenshot i posted and someone managed to track down forum posts i made under a completely different pseudonym 15+ years ago just for the lulz

sort of cemented the freedom of interactions this site in a grim way

been visiting since I was a kid in 2006
haven't browsed in about 1-2 years, then came back 3-4 weeks ago because a new Rimworld expansion came out and I just totally flipped the script I became a total fucking hobo I didn't go outside I ordered flink (like uber eats) for my groceries and I fucking sat indoors and did fucking nothing and felt like shit about myself and deleted all my dating apps cuz nothing fucking worked and got banned on reddit because their r4r mods are fucking retards and anyway, I'm a lonely fucking coomer and I'm trying to get my hobbies going IRL at the moment before uni starts again. So yeah. That's why I'm here, but soon hopefully inshallah I won't be here and I'll have pussy slime coating my tongue 24/7

Been coming here for 20 years now. Kinda wild to consider it. Maybe if I could redo life with my current knowledge I'd never go(and I'd toss out that DnD starter set my uncle gave me) but it doesn't feel like stopping now would improve anything.

I definitely feel this when I go to /tg/. It feels weirdly lifeless and I can recognize the same writing styles and opinions so I feel like I know the remaining people, like they're coworkers or regulars in my favorite pub.

Also I post a lot and still improve my life every day. 4chan is not the reason you accomplish nothing most days, anons. Your nerdy interests are not the reason either. With your mentality and daily water intake you would likely still do nothing most days even if there was nothing to distract you. You would lay on the ground staring at the ceiling or sky.

I keep coming back because I can express my thoughts without some hive mind Reddit pussy accusing me of being in an artificial out-group.
I’m not even racist/sexist/etc. It’s just that so much of the rest of the modern internet forces you to tie your identity to everything you’ve ever said. And it’s turned into an us/them filter instead of a true/false filter. Being anonymous here means you’re judged for your reason, not some identity feature. (For the most part)

It's the perfect place to get into stupid internet arguments where you have anonymity (so long as you don't tripfag and/or pos pics of yourself, etc.) and also don't have to be signed into anything,

Get into a slight disagreement anywhere else and dudes will pester you for days and weeks if not months trying to stretch the argument out and comb through your posting history looking for the slightest bit of contradictions and also dox you if they're autistic enough.
Anonymous No.33536344
4chan is only for the periods of time when:

You are not busy enough
You are lonely

Twitter doesn't really feel the same because it's a bunch of normies and has too many performative elements, the demographic here is normies too but it has a weirder slant and I'm willing to bet the average age creeps up every year so people here understand old fuckers like me more, also why discord isn't really a good fit because it's largely early 20s tranny zoomers

I don't fit in anywhere else, I've been here too long and feel more comfortable posting here. I think difference in opinion is also more respected here than on other social media. It's weird to say, people on reddit are extremely rude and toxic. I've had more pleasant interactions with posters on pol than reddit.

There's nowhere else to go. The rest of the internet is pozzed and faggified beyond repair. There used to be a lot of other decent places to go but there's really nothing now. In the 2000s I used to frequent lots of different forums and shit. Now what is there? Reddit and Twitter absorbed all online discussion and they're heavily moderated, and the internet is flooded with gay ass bots and everything is tied into social media and your personal accounts that are linked to your phone number and all kinds of retarded shit and it just keeps getting worse.

Back in the day there were so many forums, you could just easily make an account and go to the le random section and call people niggers and have them insult you back, call you a cocksucking retarded fag. Life was good. Now you can only do that here. Where the fuck else is there to get my fix of trash talking and retardation? Even in its sorry state, it's still better than fucking reddit.

I grew up in the early 2000s before the internet became fake, gay, and gentrified by corporations/government. That's not to say this place wasn't compromised long ago (doxed jannies had .edu and .gov email addresses), but it's a nice throwback to that time.

So basically, I'm just a dinosaur. This place still stands in mostly the original form it had 20 years ago. Every other contemporary website from my youth has been redesigned and refitted for the retarded modern internet.

I have just arrived to this place and I see that lots of people complain about that, but no one ever says how to make it relevant again. I don't know how it used to be but I like it. I got good advice that helped me during a huge crisis, good music recs and feedback on a project.

I am new here and I don't want to be a burden. I find this place cool (though some anons are mean), it helped me. How can I help? Should I just leave? I do not really know much about this place's culture and maybe I cannot add anything useful.

oldfag here, started posting in 2010. ("that's not oldfag" that's 15 fucking years ago shut the fuck up.) basically lurk moar. each board has similarities -- lax moderation, insults, etc -- but each board also has a different culture that you just have to learn by lurking for a bit. off the cuff easy example is that /adv/, /lit/, and /mu/ are more left-wing compared to /pol/ or /b/. nobody cares if your feelings get hurt on any board. don't feed the trolls and ignore the schizotards who screech about le heckin joo or whatever their boogeyman is that day. the interest boards like /mu/ or /lit/ are filled with people who don't really know what they're talking about and just want to think they're smart, so keep that in mind. compared to the average person the posters on the interest boards know a LOT about their interest, but this doesn't mean they're geniuses. 4chan is both more retarded than you think and smarter than you think. treat everything you read and see as fake/a creative writing exercise unless OP posts some kind of proof. blue boards tend to be slower than red boards. never reveal any identifying information of any kind unless you are dead certain you know what you're doing. prepare to get called a faggot a lot. 4chan has always been bad and will always be bad, there was never a "golden age" where it was good. lurk moar.

As an internet user from India. This is only a place where Sanghis have not infiltrated yet. Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, is full of cow dung my boys. Full of missinformation made by BJP to Brainwash the Population.

Also I posted so many ideas and thoughts and they didn't got moderator approval and ones that got some replies but they were retards. But in 4chan, I saw the best brains on the internet. At least they have some new ideas and solutions to every problem. Yeah I love schizo - chan

It still feels like a very unique place on the internet. The anonymity, ephemeral nature and ease of uploading images lends itself to people more honestly expressing themselves. You can come here and say something stupid that's on your mind and then everyone will call you a fag and you can learn from the stupid thing you said without it hurting your reputation like it would on other sites. That's just one thing. I don't think it is as creative or influential as it was in the early years but still a great site.

Started back in 2008. It's the last place on the internet that has enough traffic to not be dead and isn't moderated to the point you have to stifle your opinions. I have to do that everyday in real life, why the fuck would I want to hide my real opinions on the internet as well?

This place has had its ups and down, 2016-2022 were dogshit years for this place. Truly an awful time to be a 4chan poster but it's returned to some normalcy now.

I've tried Reddit but it's just so fucking gay compared to this place. Everyone is such a fucking pussy ass bitch. I don't want to call everyone a fag just because I can, that novelty wore off a long time ago but I still want to be able to when someone is in fact being a fag.

Lotta things drew me to this place

1 novelty
Images, information. Sharing novel stuff. Stimulating. (Source for "news", new things, updates of the world, etc, unusual stuff)

2 real human nature
I wanted to learn about human nature, inner nature, truth revealed. Not always the case since there's light hearted trolling etc but
Still a good place to study it
Considering the anything goes reputation, the bad reputation, the underground reputation etc etc etc anonymity and ephemeral nature as above anon said
People will be less filtered than usual

3 self
I find myself "drawn" to certain things. Cyclical. But I learn and then update myself. Old things become bygone. I shed the old. I understand myself better. I decide what actions must be done.
Reading other people's experiences and opinions
And relating to it
And reflecting it to my own life
Through comparison
You know when you read something and you're like
Damn
Well said
That me fr
Shiet Sista/brudda
Damn
Damn
Damn
Same
Damn
So this is how it do be for me
I'll act accordingly upon learning this
Thank you

But yeah, moments like that are less, as I understand myself more, so I can finally be released from this hell hole hacker known as 4chan (pls, on my knees, begging, )i'll do anything for you>_<
