Why am I naturally intimidating and creepy looking? Even when I try to smile for a picture it looks more like an evil sneer. I'm not evil. I am a kind person. It's like an extreme male version of resting bitch face.

That's the thing, even if I'm genuinely happy and in a good mood my eyebrows and mouth are resting so it looks like I'm not. Trying to force a big smile makes me feel like I'm exaggerating too much

There's a few different factors that go into your smile that can be off-putting.


>A reward-smile
where your eyes crinkle up and you show teeth. This signals a hormonal response in your body like you just "won". Imagine how certain people with different experiences and interests than you will feel if you just look at them like you're "winning" the situation. Can you imagine why some people would dislike it? Maybe they feel like you have an unfair advantage over them or maybe they suspect you are attracted to them but the feeling isn't mutual.
The reward smile is powerful but very situational if it is appropriate.

>An affiliation smile
You keep your eyes relaxed, you widen out and raise your lips while keeping them closed. This can give a "puppy dog look". It is almost never threatening. This is an expression which tells people that you are not seeking power in the situation. Perhaps not everyone will reward you for making this face but certainly no one will dislike you.

>A dominance smile
This is a punishing expression, you squint on half of your face and pull up half of your lip. This suggests to the other person that they are a joke to you. Generally bad unless you got some animu rivalry thing going on. This one shows other people that you either don't take them seriously or you are actively trying to fuck with their head.

Attractiveness can play into all of these sure. If you are unkempt, out of line, people might be reacting to that directly, rejecting whatever social signal you are sending is. But the underlying signaling is universally understood
