I'm being mandated by my employer to attend counseling for "Self Esteem issues" because I keep calling myself retarded when I screw up, and them asking about bruises caused from me hitting myself.
I dunno if I should, especially since I'm being expected to pay, they say they will reimburse me.
It's part of a mental health initiative, apparently.

Take advantage of it. Seems like they value you as an employee and if they are that means you can actually shop around for a good, proactive therapist that would actually understand how poor your mental health actually is. You may not get how bad it is from where you are now, but know that you should treat yourself better than this because by just being alive entitles you to that much.

Ohhh shit, I thought it meant some group course thing, they're offering to reimburse some kind of a therapist? So it's not a lump sum but they'll reimburse e.g. monthly, okay that's different.
It could be good if OP really has so much trouble coping. I don't esteem therapy that highly but for basic, middling IQ stuff it can work out.

Maybe, maybe not. However I think you would be hard pressed to find a therapist associated with a nearby hospital system or dedicated mental health organization that WOULDN’T worth with you to find a therapist or counselor who would agree to tele-visits

OP here, I brought things up to my boss and her boss, especially the fact that there is only one counselor in 50 miles that takes our insurance.
They changed their tune, they are paying a 125% stipend for any counselor, and the offer is being extended to all employees.
I've been to counseling, I've been on many different drugs, nothing has worked, so it's a waste of time.
