wouldn't care. when you're depressed, you don't pay attention to stuff like hygiene. i shower when i get tired of my own smell. my hair is unkempt and i look and dress like a hobo.

I never felt like i had the respect of anyone. i can tell in someone's demeanor whether they respect me or not. the person who tells me i stink is less insulting than the person who tries to give me a half assed compliment that neither of us believe is true.

At that point there's probably some gossip and insult at your expense that's being had to play some social game where putting you down increases their standing. It's likely more than one person who is spreading the idea that you stink. Especially if they say it to you in front of other people.

never had someone buy me deodorant, but they did buy me more clothes and even newer shoes because my old ones were falling apart around my feet. and to be fair, i did start cycling between different outfits just to show them that i was wearing what they gave me since i genuinely appreciated it.

Okay yeah that's definitely what's going on. You've got a reputation as being someone who is easy to make fun of and when they do it, they make each other laugh and use you as a punching bag to increase their own social standing.

quit. wasn't because of my coworkers, it was because the manager laid into me about having a messy work area on top of wanting me to go faster. all while i was the smallest guy moving the heaviest shit on average and making my back sore (the supervisors repeatedly fucking with me also pushed me over the edge). i probably shouldn't have quit since i haven't found another job, since. but it feels like i'm close to giving up on life anyway. too immersed in my AI slop and the dreaded realization that i'm a loser kicked in. i'm 27 and it feels too late to turn my life around.

Brother it's literally never too late to turn your life around until you're on your death bed. I was like you, started life with nothing but shitty factory jobs and warehouse shit. Then I said "This is just straight up not worth it" and went to school. Didn't get a degree, but got a ton of experience and was able to get better jobs.

Not saying this is a good pathway right now especially with the job market being hot garbage at the moment, but it's never too late to change your life.

I had a friend many years ago that would stink like meat when he sweated. Like uncooked recently unfrozen meat

when I was living in europe I was 100% the smell of ass and unwashed armpits came from a dude that looked a bit down on his luck when this dude with a tuxedo and an expensive haircut stood up and left the train and the smell vanished
