Some people will, others not. The big difference seems to be having a life outside of your partners, so job, friends, etc. that you come home and tell your partner about

On some level, yes. When you are with someone long term, you end up getting comfortable with them, which can result in boredom. This can be alleviated by trying new things together, which can reveal sides of your partner that you never knew before, but ultimately a big part of a successful monogamous relationship is the moment where both parties accept this comfort and boredom with each other, trading excitement for stability.

If you live a boring life on your own selves, you will simply end up being bored together once the novelty wars off. Go out, do shit, have hobbies, learn shit, together or alone. Do stuff on your own, keep yourself interesting persons who have something to talk about when they see each other. If all you do is rot in front of the TV Boomer style, then yes it will be boring as hell.

My longest relationships were ended by me, and I’d imagine they would go on indefinitely beyond my intervention.

What I found is that the secret is always having a plan that both of you are working towards. It has to be both equal involvement AND it has to be exciting. You and her against the world type shit.

I did it with trips to Europe, touring bands, dramatic relocation, real steps towards improve quality of life (not just daydreaming).

People get bored or itchy feet when they realize that they’ll stagnate or eventually get stuck. By comparison, having a fluid plan gives everything a new meaning. It’s not, “oh dishes again, huh?”, it’s “only a few more times to do dishes until we leave for Ireland.” Big difference.

This is also how you can string a girl along if you’re low in cash but big on ambition. Make life dramatic and boost the stakes.
