how do i get over my fear of cooking/fear of buying food?
yeah so, it sounds very stupid, but i am a very shy/anxious person and i have issues with cooking around other people or buying food because i am afraid of waht other people will think. this also leaks into other aspects of my life but with food it is definitely the worst since i cant get to a healthy weight and feel weak/look sickly and never weighed above 126-127 lbs when i lived with my grandmother as a teen and she fed me constantly so i didnt have to worry about what to eat.

id just really like to look healthy and be strong for once in my life.

Yea, that does sound kind of dumb, get therapy because there's obviously some shit happening that's not solvable with some gentle advice.

I don't know where you live, but if this is in the context of being in college, you should know that some students cook some of the most horrible food imagineable and nobody really cares, at most if they're friends they'll just laugh about it.

I also cooked some fucked up meals sometimes, or just got clumsy and kept making mistakes, but nobody really cared, infact they even offered help sometimes. Maybe cook something simple first like spaghetti aglio e olio or whatever, or even just frying an egg. You'll get used to it, just do it brah.

i dont know how to explain it, but if i do something that another person might find weird/silly/stupid/whatever disapproving term, i get really scared and i feel helpless like a child and i panic and try to go to people for help and if that doesnt work i kind of just shut down and dont eat at all...

You just have to do it, that's the only way you'll slowly realize that your fears are not really all that scary. It's fine to panic the first few times, but after enough times you'll notice that nobody really cares. Even if they do, you'll eventually learn how to do it well and they'll eat their words.

Most of these anxieties are in the head. I usually feel the same as you, and everytime I just do whatever I feel scared of I realize it's not that big a deal and laugh about it in retrospect.

That's the spirit! Just remember that it's ok to make mistakes. That's just simply what you learn from. Even if you panic, keep trying until you overcome the feeling.

If the thread will still be up, you should post what you cooked if you feel comfortable with that! I look forward to it. :)

Beans are yummy... I haven't had them in a while so I kinda crave them. Maybe I should make something with beans too haha.

Also no pressure! I just usually felt proud when I cooked something and liked showing it to my frens, thought you might feel that way too!

>i am afraid of waht other people will think
About what? Most people will not remember of think about you at all after leaving the grocery store.
Describe the last 5 people you personally saw at a grocery store buying food. If you can't do it, it's not likely that anyone else can.
