How to tell my gf i cant get into anime
>be me
>have gf from 2 yrs
>she's otaku
>tries to get me into anime during these two years
>tell her that maybe the hobby isn't for me
>she tells me that anime is a medium like movies and saying you don't like anime is like saying you don't like movies

These are part (word limit) my stats:
(Stoped watching at the first ep abreviated as: SWP)

One Piece: SWP
SAO: SWP
Shingeki: Lost interest when they were recovering one of the walls or something.
Danmachi: Finished. Kept watching for the boobs. Don't remember the plot.
Akira: Watched it. Didn't like it.
Koe no katachi: Watched it. Didn't like it.
Ballroom E youkoso (or however it's spelled): Lost interest after Mako dances with the protag.
Kimetsu no yaiba: (this one needs an explanation later)
Berserk: SWP
Hunter x Hunter: SWP
Naruto: Lost interest in the chunin exam or whatever it's called
Evangelion: Lost interest when Asuka showed up
My Hero Academia: SWP
Erased: forced to finished. didnt like
Re:Zero: SWP
Angel's Egg: Literally fell asleep lol
Parasyte: Got to where they kill the nosy girl (?
Full Moon wo Sagashite: SWP
Fullmetal Alchemist: SWP.
Chainsaw-man: Finished it out of pure curiosity. Didn't like it.

And on top of that, she has me watching Kimetsu no Yaiba right now, since she wants to go see the movie in the future and needs me to understand it.
It's really boring me completely. But I discovered it's manageable if I watch one episode a day.
I'm at the part where the pink-haired girl and the mist guy show up.
Something Kimetsu has made me notice is how weird the dialogue is in these cartoons:

>Tanjiro swings at the demon's head
>Tanjiro: I'm gonna cut your head off!
>Demon: He's gonna cut my head off!
>People: He's gonna cut his head off!

Anyway.
As I've said, I've tried telling her that maybe it's not for me, but she always responds with the movie analogy and blah blah

tell her it's different cultures, its like saying western movies are the same thing as oriental movies, desu your gf analogy is dumb as fuck and if she's forcing you to do something you dont like and refuse to listen to you saying you dont like that's a massive red flag

What's the problem with having different interests? You can still have a relationship, your preferred entertainment hasn't got a lot to do with that.

I wish I had autistic otaku gf.

How do you finish Chudsaw Man but not Parasyte? Anyway, it's not for you. Your GF shouldn't force a thing she likes onto you.

i was a total otaku in middle school and then about ten years later when i tried watching anime again, i could not get into it at all. i don't think your gf's analogy is correct. theres just something about the 2d animation that makes me unable to tolerate it on top of most of the storylines failing to captivate me. i guess maybe you could give manga a try, which i personally like far more than watching anime, but i doubt it would resonate much more. but yeah i would not be upset at all if my bf didn't like whatever media i liked, especially knowing he tried so hard to get into it

She's not wrong.

What do you normally watch as movies or TV shows?
There's probably several anime series that are in line with your tastes.

Even things like the subgenres of food anime and sports anime, if you're watching something normal like golf and cooking shows on TV you're one step away from watching anime. There's anime about just going to the gym. There's multiple series about boxing.

>one episode a day
sure, the normal broadcast schedule is once a week, you could also binge watch and entire 12 episode season in one day.

>dialogue
Are you watching in Japanese or English?

>Chainsaw Man
what didn't you like about it? What was it that made you watch it all the way through?

Like >>33651990 said, you could probably get better suggestions if you elaborated some more on what you dislike and what you want to see more of. I do get it though, I went from textbook-weeb to cringing at 90% of the shows I can find. Anime tropes are especially annoying to me.
That being said, there's still a good chance that there's something out there for you, especially in manga.
If you want something slow and artsy, there's Texhnolyze and Ergo Proxy, both of which are known for being pretty confusing
BLAME! (not the movie) is a personal fav, partially because of its mystique, art and overall vibes. But mostly because its dialogue is actually bearable
Black Lagoon is a lot more straightforward than the other two, but also not as special. First few episodes were genuine kino but then there are arcs that just feel out of place, dialogue is also a lot more bearable, even if a little cringy at times
Freesia is a personal favorite of mine but I also don't blame anyone for dropping it. Very grounded story with a very schizo protag, has some neat shootouts but the protag's ability--even after an explanation, feels like an asspull
Ghost in the Shell is the cow that every mediocre Cybergunk writer milks till its dry. It and GitS Innocence aren't bad and the visuals are gorgeous
One Punch Man and Mob Psycho are pretty good in terms of writing and animation, nothing too complicated but also have enough substance to not be called """""hype moments and aura""""". Also frequently referred to as "anime for people who hate anime"

But if you really don't want to get into anime;
Don't expect too much from this site in terms of relationship advice. Make sure to tell her that you still love her and that her hobby doesn't really get in the way. Only counterargument to "it's a medium, not a genre" that I can think of rn is just pointing out that mainstream shows tend to still have the same tropes and formulas baked into them. Best argument is still no argument tho, just saying that you don't vibe with it on a fundamental level could work, you can't exactly argue a person out of their feelings after all. Could lead to more trouble tho idk

just force her to watch capeshit then. since that's the only shit you like
Anonymous No.33654773 >>33655153
Just to clarify, its not that i watch a chapter and say "this thing sucks". It usually goes like this:

>Watch chapter one of One piece
>Okay not bad, ill watch the next tomorrow
>Next day
>Hmm should i watch chapter two, or do something else.....
>End up doing something else
That's it. I dont think that one piece is bad or anything

I also couldnt get into Avatar or Castlevania kek
So maybe im not into animation in general

I mostly play vidya and read books.
Wich reminds me that i once tried to get her to play Minecraft in my buddies' server. She clearly found it boring and I never asked her again lol
And also one book i recommended (the man who was thursday), just read the first chapter, and again, i had no problem with it lol. I think its unfair but i never bring up that point and never will since i think it's petty.

favs:

Gayms(series):
Minecraft.
Pokemon
Rune factory
Golden sun(dead)
Final fantasy tactics (dead)
Monster hunter
Patapon(dead)
Persona
SMT
Terraria

One book i like per genre:

Romance:
Torrents of spring.
Fantasy:
Earthsea
Action:
Basically anything by Robert E Howard.
Adventure:
She
SCI fi:
Starship troopers
Mistery:
Dr jekyll mr hyde
Detective:
Father brown
Spy:
The tailor from Panama

I cant remember any more genres rn

>Are you watching in Japanese or English?
Japanese. Maybe its a problem with the websites since i simply click the first that shows up.
>What was it that made you watch it all the way through?
The thing about demons becoming strong through fear. I thought that maybe a death demon would appear later. And maybe it will on the next seasons.

You're not wrong when you say that it's perfectly fine to have separate interests. And I don't think it's a "massive" red flag like this anon
>>33651277 said, but the fact that she keeps trying to force anime on you does suggest she's kinda immature and thinks that being in a relationship means both partners have to have the exact same interests.

My gf is like you in that she's not into anime at all, while I am. Meanwhile? she's really into reality dating shows, but for the most part, we both accept each other's different interests.

Are you and your gf watching other TV shows together? Cause while my gf and I both like genres that the other person doesn't like, we still watch TV together all the time, and it hasn't been hard for us to find shows that both of us like.

It also feels like your gf is just making you watch whatever anime she likes. I've occasionally made my gf watch anime, but I've also made sure to choose anime that I'm nearly 100% sure that she would like. She really liked Deathnote, and I chose that because she's really into true crime. I have tons of shows I really like, but I would still never show them to her cause I'm sure she wouldn't care for them.

I think you should do several things:
>Tell her that you don't think it's fair for her to make you watch anime, when you don't force her interests on her.
>Tell her you still like being with her, and that not having the exact same interests isn't a sign that you're not compatible.
>Tell her what you said about just not being that into animation, and that it's just a thing with you, not something that implies anime is bad.
>If you're not already, try to find shows that you both would like to watch together, and not just anime
>If she insists on still showing you SOME anime, tell her to choose shows that she thinks you would like based on your interests, and not just throw whatever show she likes at you and see what sticks.

Neat. Im glad to find someone from the oposite side here lol
>Are you and your gf watching other TV shows together?
Movies mostly.
Most of the anime movies i mentioned, like Akira or Koe no katachi, Kimi no na wa also, and others like Dune.

>It also feels like your gf is just making you watch whatever anime she likes.
Sometimes. But sometimes she asks me about favorite genres and all that, but i dont have a strong preference for any genre.

Anonymous No.33655219
>>33655195
Not a problem, glad to help anon. I would definitely recommend trying to find TV shows you would both want to watch together. Watching a whole season or more of a show is a great way to bond because it's something you both get invested in and can talk about over the course of days or weeks depending on the length of the show. And we'll often pause in the middle of an episode to comment on something that happened, which we'll often lead to discussions about other topics that we both enjoy. But I've also been thinking we should watch more movies too because I'm running out of shows to recommend lol.

To help your gf pick what shows she would like to show you, try to tell her some of your favorite TV shows. That will help her narrow it down. I chose Deathnote because she really liked Dexter.

strange that you have so many JRPGs on your list when you have a distaste for anime

>Japanese. Maybe its a problem with the websites since i simply click the first that shows up.
Oh no it's fine, I always recommend original Japanese over English or whatever other language dub. Unless the subtitles are really really distracting.

I'm kind of at a lost as to what to recommend to you, especially since I asked about what you watch on TV normally and instead gave me a bunch of books. /a/ might be better suited to give recommendations.

All I can say is that it also tooks me years to get into anime. I watched like digimon and pokemon and even dragon ball and a few other series as a kid but then as an adult it took me several years to get into anime and I've yet to watch a lot of the "essential classics"

Maybe you ought to do that, start with Dragon Ball.

She's right, which is why it's so weird when people say they love anime. It's like saying you like movies - everyone likes movies. I like movies/tv shows in general and some of the happen to be anime. But liking exclusively anime is some weeb shit

>But liking exclusively anime is some weeb shit
it could be yes, it usually is.

It's also because animation as medium in the west has been dead for like 70 years.
it's either straight up kids' movies for babies, or it's stoner fart jokes for teenagers and 20 year olds like south park family guy rick and morty smiling friends etc.

you'll never see just a straight crime drama in western animation like you would in anime.

People are so allergic to animation in the west that even movie IPs based on comic books HAVE to be live action adaptations.

for the record I like 1950s western animation like the disney classics, tom and jerry. I also like 90s animated sitcoms like golden era Simpsons, Futurama, King of the Hill.

but I cannot bring myself to watch the KotH reboot because of how god awful the animation is.
