What social hobbies should I try to meet women? I have never had a girlfriend, and I'm a bit lost on what to do. I joined a martial arts gym a while ago, but I couldn't connect with anyone there. I've also tried volunteering on the weekends, with the same result. I'm 33, so it doesn't help that most people are younger than me. What else could I try?

Do something where you talk about the issue at hand. I recommend interest clubs, like book nerd clubs or something like it. You can find them on facebook or similar.
Otherwise language courses are an option, or as you did: Volunteering somewhere. Arts and photography maybe, stuff that attracts girls (so not "lifting iron in a basement").
