What did they mean by this?
It's possible she misunderstood them. Her English isn't bad but it's not her first language. Aside from that I'm mystified.

Gf is pretty frustrated because she just spent 6 weeks waiting for her last company after being told a position would open and then they kept making excuses like the manager is on leave and then nothing ever happening which is why she applied for this job

It's a niche field so they won't have many applicants. Job ad is still up.

It's just weird that they're taking so much longer than they said they would. Well not really everyone is so fucking slow but after what happened with the other job it's naturally frustrating and she's more than a bit worried

What do you do? Just sit wait in frustration while "what ifs" flood your mind?

If they do not offer you the job at the interview you aren't getting the job unless the unlikely event happens that their first choice rejects the job.

You need to run this search in parallel not sequential.

The world's more fugged than you think. There's "ghost jobs" which are listings they're not actually hiring for.

They might post a ghost job for two reasons:

1. Pile up resumes for whenever someone leaves
2. Use the resumes they get and the expected compensation applicants tell them to figure out what they should be paying their employees or what they can replace them for
