I can't really say if it did hurt more being induced just because everything was such insurmountable pain. Genuinely, one of the top most painful experiences of my entire life and I'd already given birth before that once. I'd also had internal bleeding, but I guess that one is also a top three, so I can't say if induction made it more painful or not. It was just painful because my organ that's supposed to be contracting and has a human baby inside is inflamed infected and trying to kill me. Still managed vaginal birth for both of my children though and yes, it is about matching the rhythm properly. Not necessarily as much pushing as some media will tell you. It's not nearly as fast a process, but it's not like it's always going to be days upon days or hours. My first one was very slowed labor, but honestly, it probably did not help much that they insisted on giving me the epidural and laying me flat. For sure, doctors are still people and not immune to all the stereotypes about women being dramatic and thin-skinned. I just recently read a piece about a (female, no less) doctor who admitted she straight-up failed to recognize a patient had a hyper (really hard to miss because she was drinking a ton even during the consultation and still complaining about being thirsty, while being a known diabetic) because it was a dramatic woman with a complicated back story and she found her tiring and self-pitying. That woman almost died because she wrote her off as fine.

And apart from these errors in judgement, obviously there is an issue in the medical world with realizing too little, too late that women aren't just smaller men. Like how differently heart defects or heart attacks present in women compared to men... Which is still not really general knowledge I feel even though it's been known for decades by now, and it is still visible in less women surviving heart attacks.

But even apart from sexism I still think it is also a more general way of thinking where it is underestimated that it's still the patient ultimately healing (or not) and they do know their own body best even when they have no medical background.

Oh, there's absolutely no way. That's why I mean she could not possibly actually go through pregnancy because you can't avoid the cervix checks. They have to know how close you are to labor, if your cervix is dilating. When I was working as a doctor, the self-pitying and over-dramatic behavior would wear me down like you wouldn't believe. It's hard enough to deal with one person being like that, now imagine you have 20 people like that in a day. What's weird is it's even a bias female doctors have against female patients.

Yeah actually the article was written specifically to make people more aware that human error is very much still a thing in the medical field and if we want to prevent more of it, it needs to be less taboo to admit it. It featured not just the female doctor but two other doctors that made grave errors they were willing to admit to under their real name, with two of them still presently working, so I feel at least that's a positive development.

But I totally hear you otherwise. I also reckon some qualities that are very desirable in specific medical professions, including a cold analytical side, do not necessarily pair often with other qualities (emotional intelligence, being in touch with your intuition, reading people generally, deep empathy) that are also very valuable. And it stands to reason that as it is a very taxing profession, more hardened people would survive it more easily. But maybe people can be trained in a way that guides them better on how to deal with the difficult sides without hardening themselves.

For instance we had one (1) 45min lecture on how to break bad news. And then in internship you're just expected to pick up the phone without hesitation and tell someone their mom just died and explain what we'll be doing with her body while they scream in anguish. "Soft skills" are vastly important and they can absolutely be taught if you're willing to learn.
There's also the problem of institutions and seniors treating young doctors especially like machines. My best friend is currently working in a clinic and on the verge of a mental breakdown because they're threatening to fire her for not managing to see 40 patients a day. How the hell are you supposed to deal with anything more complex than an STI with that kind of grind? You actively get punished for caring and taking the time to listen.

Which is such a shame because if a GP does get the chance to actually get to know the patient over time and learn what their normal is, it also becomes easier to tell apart minor things from real issues. I am hugely biased because I am trained in mental healthcare in a specific field that works to sort of complement the workers in hospitals, hospices, psychiatric facilities etc. But it is baffling to me and seemingly so outdated that in hospitals people get diagnosed with crippling/chronic/terminal diseases each day and then sent home without offering them any place to process their emotional feelings. While I feel no doctor would ever actually argue that stress isn't hugely toxic for the body and for the immune system. Or: we have known for a long time that healthier and more nutritious, tasty food plays a big role in fast recovery. Yet what's actually done with that knowledge? Nothing, in most places.

When I have a bad day, it feels like it's pretty hopeless because the issue isn't really lack of knowledge but more optimizing the knowledge we have. On good days I feel there's a world to win if only our mindset can change a little bit more. Most days are still good days thank god.

I'm planning a medical intervention for my sister-in-law actually. She has celiacs disease which took a lot of work to get diagnosed and of course they did the scope and everything so it's very confirmed but she's become underweight. She started having absence seizures and for some reason they couldn't figure it out, so they sent her to a cardiac specialist who said that she has resting tachycardia and that she needs to consume more water, exercise more, consume more salt. He actually prescribed her sodium tablets. He said she should also avoid any processed meat and all pork products. I just can't believe that he's that stupid because the girl is underweight clearly, like you can see her chest bones in anything lower than a high collar. She is always moving quickly, she exercises often, she only drinks water and milk anyway and she consumes a normal amount of salt for the average person. What I think is happening is her celiacs disease has become extremely unmanaged. She does eat and I have lived with her for a little bit during the holidays and once for an extended period of time getting to know my in-laws better, so I know she does eat. She eats a fairly normal amount for anyone her height and activity. I think she's just having serious malabsorption problems and all of her symptoms are from severe malnutrition.

It took a very long time to figure out and it was even harder for us to treat. She had severe colic and severe constipation issues. As a little baby, she would only shit once a week. Of course, I was extremely concerned my poor baby was in constant pain, she was crying all the time, and as you can imagine when she did shit, it was extremely painful and resulted in a lot of bleeding. It was an absolute fucking nightmare, and doctors just kept dismissing it and saying that it must not be that bad. I had a doctor in the ER because of course I was extremely concerned tell me that I was wasting her time and there were actual sick children that needed attention. Until, of course, we started intervening more, taking pictures and videos, asking for more answers, trying to get testing done. Ended up with a whole lot of nothing, or treatments that seemed like they would do so much more damage, like just constantly dosing her with antibiotics, or putting her on miralax. I finally solved it just by giving her three milliliters of black coffee first thing in the morning after she had her food. I did that again after one week, and then I only needed to do it if she didn't have a bowel movement for three days, now she's totally fine and has no issues. When I told the pediatrician, that's what I did, she was absolutely livid and said I could have killed her by giving her cardiac problems. I said, are you stupid? We have no history of cardiac problems in our family. What so ever? It's micro-dosing. This is the only natural accident that we haven't tried. She's finally not in pain. Looking back, probably the only other thing we could have done would be give her probiotics. Considering that when she was born, I had four bags of IV antibiotics, strong powerful antibiotics, it probably just nuked her digestive tract of all bacteria, so she wasn't able to actually digest anything at all.

No, she essentially went from the hospital to the cardiac, which, again, still just didn't make much sense to me because even if it presents with cardiac symptoms, why not send her to someone that works generally with internal organs to see which one is actually causing the problem instead of which one is showing signs of disease or disorder. It should be a whole picture, a holistic thing, just because you have a seizure that does not necessarily mean that it's just a brain problem. It could be something that is affecting the brain, but started somewhere else. I'm not sure all the blood workups that they've done on her but still at the end of the day if she's saying that she's trying hard to gain weight and I've watched her try and instead she's maintaining or losing weight and she's showing severe symptoms of malnutrition. I think it's time to see an actual specialist that might be able to help and take it seriously.

They sometimes start like taking blood or looking at the affected body parts even while I am still describing what is actually going on. lol I'm sometimes not sure if they are still processing what I talk about or just "let me talk", while they do their thing.
As for the other questions, I'm sure you understand they're difficult to answer. But I have brought up potential connections of issues/symptoms to diseases before and then they told me about other things that I would usually have too if what I asked about was the case. Doctors seem to usually go to the most likely cause unless you have several indicators for something more severe, which is reasonable.

An example I can give is recently I had severe pain in my right leg after laying around for a week because of hip pain.
I asked my GP if it could be thrombosis, but he said if that was the case, then I would also have a clearly swollen leg and the skin would be more jelly-like to the touch if you pushed it in with your fingers.
And it was not thrombosis, I just strained my calves and had an inflammation. A week of ibuprofen helped it go away. The anti-inflammation ointment I put on my calves did not go deep enough, since I got quite muscular calves.

Bringing up symptoms and asking about causes is also a bit of a mental thing for me. It helps me be reassured, that I at least brought it up, you know?
I've had some other things, but I don't want to post about them publically. However, so far no doctor has had a severe misdiagnosis.

I'd just be beside myself if something really awful happened to her and I didn't do anything more. She thought it was interesting and she'd bring it up next appointment, I'm not there right now and my husband said his other sister us quietly very concerned so I want to reach out and ask how she's looking, if she's gotten more pale and blue, darker circles, and give her my theory, ask her to gave a sit down and offer to take her to a real doctor not a quack. Unfortunately we generally didn't refer them for anything because our 300 bed hospital had 1 psychologist and if we referred them to an external counselor it would take about a year for them to get an appointment. The only exception was for mothers who had had a stillbirth or lost a newborn, they would be sent for counselling. I always felt absolutely terrible for them all and wished I could do more.
We had a partnership with a local funeral home so thankfully that part would be done for them at least. We got pretty efficient with the process because this was in an area with a large Muslim population and they need to bury within 24 hours or something like that.

Repeated courses of antibiotics are terrible for anyone. I was almost killed and left practically cripped for months by a clostridium difficile infection that happened specifically because I was a retard who didn't listen to his own advice and took antibiotics repeatedly.
