I have a thread up about using the word "date" when asking a girl out. Honestly my conclusion is that yeah you can use the word date to clarify your intentions so you can use context clues like asking are you single followed by can I take you out for drinks (as a date?) stuff like that

But at the end of the day what that other anon said is right - if you're hot, shoot your shot. She'll say okay in either case.

The one thing about wording, though, ask it as a leading question instead of a direct question. It’s the difference between:

In the middle of a banter-y conversation.

If it was more serious or in the middle of a normal conversation I’d probably say something like “btw I’d love to get dinner with you sometime. Are you free XX day?”

Remember if she immediately offers alternative dates if she can’t make it, that’s a good sign. If she doesn’t, then congratulations that you at least shot your shot. You can do it!
