I know a local / entry tier "celebrity" well. Not A-lister movie star stuff - but prominent enough thanks to their career that when we go out together they will be recognised several times and people want to get photos, talk etc. Women occasionally launch at him like heat seeking missles. Locally known and sometimes internationally recognised type of thing. He's been in things on Netflix and some high exposure UK films.
It's kind of poisoned a lot of areas of his life that I take for granted. He's lost his anon status. There's a layer of stress and variables added onto him being in public that isn't present for regular people. You wanna get drunk in a bar? People might film you. In a bad mood, had a bad day and just want to sit in your favourite place and sink a beer? Someone might come up wanting to sit and chat and get a photo. Wanna go on a date? Have to contend with the fact that the woman may be solely interested in your value as a status object and presume their beauty is the value that justifies the transaction. Forget about sharing politics and opinions too openly on the internet too - even not saying things can get you called out.
Point being - why would you want to go out and be the centre of attention like that for random NPCs? After a while it just makes sense. The outside world is stressful. People are always looking at you. He gets stared at in airports while people try figure out if it's him. He gets approached in bars by random people who start a dialogue tree he feels obliged to act out.
One time we nearly got in a situation with some hostile men who wanted to start shit with him. The delicate balance was that if I handled business in that scenario, it may actually harm him more than if he got beaten up. Too much drama, bad optics, people running games on social media afterwards.
He doesn't get to interact with the outside world authentically anymore. It's all filtered through a lens of optics and potential risk to reputation.
