Just found out I’m probably celiac.
Did an IgA anti-transglutaminase test — positive is 20 U/mL or higher, mine was over 1000 U/mL.

Makes sense though. Had mouth ulcers since I was a kid, random diarrhea, stomach pain, fingers that don’t heal right, and lately I can’t focus for shit.

Everything I like has gluten. Pizza, burgers, milanesas, even that weird beer I drink once every blue moon.

Anyone here went through this?
Where do I read real info (not the “gluten-free lifestyle” crap)?

Have your symptoms been getting worse or what made you take the test?

The other day I had to run home to use the bathroom. Stomach pains and total inconsistency when it comes to going — every texture you can imagine.

That’s why I went to the gastroenterologist. He told me it was all in my head… turns out, it’s not.

My mom has it, has for decades. She’s very sensitive to it and it has a strong effect on her.
The hard part is the fad dieters have created an environment where people don’t take gluten free seriously, so it’s very easy to get exposed at restaurants and even when eating food made by friends or family.

Anon, you HAVE to do this now. It could legit ruin your bowels. They have gluten free substitutes for that stuff. Switch to cider.

10 years with it. I basically eat a lot of Whole Foods. The certified gluten free foods are often still contaminated. Never eat oats, or barley. It will say GF but it’s a lie. Avoid General Mills products they are all cross contaminated. Get used to eating rice and corn products. Your kitchen needs to be dedicated gf to avoid cross contamination

>That’s why I went to the gastroenterologist. He told me it was all in my head… turns out, it’s not.
That was my experience also. They're desperate to diagnose something that'll involve drugs or endless followups. "Well maybe its just cancer".
After getting diagnosed, fixing the diet, no longer having any problems, he still wanted six month follow up appointments for $500 each. Why?
Needless to say only got scammed once never went back.
You can get used to any diet after a couple weeks.
Personally, I like steaks and its cheaper than you'd think. A family sized pack (aka one real world serving) of oreos costs more than a small steak even now with inflated beef prices. Chop it up and grill some steak kabobs.
Burgers do not have gluten; the flavorless chemical tasting buns have gluten.
Look out for sauces and "thickeners" oddly enough cheap onions sauce has wheat in it. Last thing a human needs in 2025 is more onions.

Or go keto / paleo. In those diets, none of the stuff you're giving up is good for you and its even worse for someone with allergies.

Why no oats if it's something certified gluten free? Yeh, you still have rice, corn, quinoa, buckwheat (actually gluten free), amaranth, sorghum, millet, potato starch, tapioca starch, arrowroot, almond flour, coconut flour, chickpea flour.

I found out I got ulcerose colitis when I was a teen, ever since then I've been speedrunning things that will kill me because FUCK being a cripple.
Normally I'm supposed to be on a full macrobiotic diet like some tard, but I'd rather drink and do blow and bleed out on the toilet one day.

i got diagnosed a few months back and like you it explained a lot of bullshit i had to deal with in the past.
you gotta learn how to cook. you can't live off fast food anymore since everything there has gluten. even finding a proper restaurant with gf options is hard enough as it is. some cuisines will be a no-go (chinese dip everything in onions sauce which often has wheat) others you get more options (mexican you can opt for corn tortillas)
like an anon said above, it's basically a keto diet. for me it's high % of meat, chicken, pork, fish, etc. but i do eat fruits, vegetables, eggs, rice, and milk (big one for me).

This is a big one. Pretty much all sauces use wheat flour as a thickener. You need to check the ingredients.

it's hard to escape in america because everything is processed slop.
i know in italy, which has lots of wheat-based foods, i had a super easy time finding gluten-free pastas and pizza and every restaurant was super accommodating. you'd be lucky to find someone who knows what celiac is in america.

Oat fields switch crops to wheat often and there’s always wheat growing in those fields. Testing for certification is based on giant batches that are mixed together to bring the ppm down. I’m just telling you from my experience. Now you can buy purity protocol oats from company like Montana gluten free. I’m ultra sensitive though. Life is pretty normal for me I just don’t eat out.

Gonna start looking for gluten-free spots around my area.
Thanks for the words, I’ll take it seriously.

I’m from Argentina, not Buenos Aires, so I barely know any international products. Still, I get your point — I’ll check which “GF” or “sin TACC” stuff is actually bullshit.

My first reaction was, “I’ve lived with this crap all my life, can’t be that bad.” Turns out I was wrong — all those little daily problems were from this shit, and it’s been getting worse with time.
Don’t know about your case, but I get that I’m not gonna die overnight — unless I shoot myself, and open carry ain’t legal here yet.

Left the appointment with a bunch of lab requests and a psychologist’s number… thanks for the advice.
My dad said we’ll switch to more meat. Like you said, homemade burgers don’t need bread.
Thing is, I’ve always lived off frozen milanesas. No clue what the hell to replace them with.

Thanks for the help, I actually wanna learn how to cook for real, so maybe that’s a good thing, I guess?
What really pisses me off are all the “no-go” foods. I’m not someone who changes routine easily, but I would’ve liked to try different dishes.
You seem to know your stuff — any YouTube cooking channels or books you’d recommend? Got a favorite dish?
I’m not used to fish. Unless it’s pre-packed, I’ve got no idea how to cook it.

Good thing I don’t have that issue.
But damn, I just realized I won’t be able to eat normal empanadas again…
Anyway, I’ve never seen a restaurant with actual celiac options.

>>33903465
I’m 22, this started when I was 8 or 9. Never held back on anything.
Hope I’m not as sensitive as you, but I’ll have to wait and see.

What pisses me off the most is that now I’m part of a damn minority.

Had this crap my whole life:
-Mouth ulcer (and nosebleeds sometimes).
-Bleeding after taking a dump -- used to blame the bidet, but I’m not sitting there for 30 minutes, man.
-Never had consistent shits, always changing color and texture.
-Stomach pain after eating (sometimes yes, sometimes no — looking back, it was always after gluten).
-Gas — not exactly a trumpet ass, but during pizza nights my friends know when I walk off, I’m dropping bombs.
-Sudden “I’m gonna shit myself” moments (explosive diarrhea). Never actually did, but I carry a change of clothes just in case — thanks to the story in pic related.
-Years ago bloodwork showed low B12 or D, had to take supplements (tasted suspiciously good).

This past year:
-Multiple ulcers at once, not from biting myself.
-My thumbs don’t heal. Use a scrub pad once and I lose my fingerprints. Dirt gets in the cracks — now it’s spreading to my index finger.
-Explosive, corrosive diarrhea.
-Farts so bad I could qualify as a biological weapon.
-PRETTY SURE I’M GOING BALD TOO (yeah I know it’s unrelated, let me dream).

Old man just told me I can’t eat “La Quinta” alfajores anymore.
Life officially fucking sucks.

I suppose the gastroenterologist will ask me for a biopsy of the affected area. But I still need to have the consultation with the result I mentioned earlier.

I am also balding and my teeth are going yellow despite brushing everyday. Will your hairs come back after going gluten free(I want to believe)?

Maybe it's some kinda malabsorption thing or IBD like Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis? You may need a colonoscopy or stool sample. Try biotin for the hair.

>>33904141
Yeah, I’ve heard of cassava flour — I’ll give it a go.
But listen, as an Argentine, I have to disagree on the whole Brazilian BBQ thing. You guys do it well, sure, and Brazilians know their meat... but ours? It’s basically a national religion. You really need to try one of ours sometime.

Burger here, my wife isn't celiac, but a lot of different wheat products make her feel like shit.
So she buys this expensive european pasta. I think it's from italy.
I can't tell the difference really, I haven't done direct comparisons though. The expensive sauce we get is a lot better than what I used to buy though.
Holy fuck I love pasta.

Hey, you just scared me a bit — I’ve always had a really high heart rate. I just checked and it’s 95 right now. When I was 17 and tried running on a treadmill for 5 minutes (that’s all I could manage), my pulse hit 170. It’s always been high. My mom has heart issues too. Think I should get that checked out as well?
I hope so, ‘cause I read brittle hair can also be a symptom — but mine’s not brittle, it’s just disappearing. Can’t help you with the teeth though. You don’t smoke, right? I’d say see a dentist, but they’ll probably just wanna file them down and sell you veneers.

>>33904302
My mom’s a doctor and she was torn between Crohn’s and celiac. I was sure it was Munchausen, lol. But yeah, gotta wait for the colonoscopy.

>>33904331

Yes just to be on the safe side but most probably it is due to this piece of shit disease. Are you fat? If not then it is surely due to this. I have also high heart rate that's why I asked.

Are you underweight too?

No. I think it is due to this demonic disease.

I’m 1.81m and weigh 106kg. I can suck my gut in and still feel my ribs. Got a belly up front — not crazy love handles, but yeah, officially obese. Never been this fat in my life.
So I really hope it’s nothing serious; I’ll get it checked once I’m doing better with the diet.

>don’t smoke
If you’re not on meds, eating gluten-free, and your toothpaste doesn’t have stannous fluoride (they actually banned Colgate Total Clean Mint here because of that), or hell, if it’s not super acidic and you’re not brushing too much… I honestly have no damn clue what’s going on with your teeth.
Anonymous No.33906049 [Report]

My dude, some toothpastes actually have gluten.
Might be what’s messing up your enamel and showing the dentin.
Check the fluoride thing — see if it’s got any weird derivatives or crap like that.
