Anime made me dumb how do i fix this? I used to be able to understand deep and complex movies/tv shows but ever since i started watching anime 4 years ago I can feel myself get dumber and dumber every year. Is it possible to regain my sub-par intelligence? I've stopped watching anime to be safe but i still can't understand movies i would have easily understood 5 years ago

Most anime are just pure brain malnourishing. The reason why most stories have gotten anime adaptations in the first place is coz theyre safe, and almost guaranteed to turn a profit, at least for the first season anyways. Just be selecrive with what you spend your time watching. If youre after impactful story, id recommend you pick up manga instead. Theres some genuinely crazy good writing out there

I tried to get into manga but the 10 year for most stories to get finished puts me off

Do you consider The Sopranos to be deep? Does it come after season 2?

I'm nearly finished season 2 and all I'm seeing is inter-personal and family drama from a bunch of thin-skinned agros that flip shit if someone sighs too loudly.

anime didn't do this, you can keep watching
lack of training/using it caused your reasoning neurocircuitry to shrink (also quit drugs and get checked for depression, they can cause this too)

you probably weren't that smart to begin with but you can still improve by making sure your life is healthy enough (sleep, diet, exercise, etc.) and doing some maths / chess / puzzles / abstract reading / whatever makes you train both memory and ability to compute mentally.

Thats what you gotta avoid. Shit thats serialised for that long is also safe and mind numbing. Like i said, be selective with what you spend your time on. The really good stories are written already with an ending in mind so they dont go that long. Only issue is finding good stories. Since theyre super niche most manga are hit or miss and are hard to come by which is fustrating, but nothing beats coming across a well made concise meaningful story. If you havent already Id recommend the chainsaw man manga. I came across it before it got an anime adaptation and im fucking annoyed that its mainstream now. Recommending it to people now feels disingenuous bc its like "yea its good because it wouldnt be popular otherwise" but its very much worth a read
