The supposed reasoning is that chimps have an "unstable" male-male competition reproductive strategy and chimp bitches aren't picky, so whoever does the most big cums has an advantage (but even the big dominant male won't control all the pussy - so even if you're a manlet chimp you can still "win" by doing big cums)
Even gorillas will mate with a sneaky manlet sometimes but that's a much more tightly controlled "patriarchy" so the silverback fathers almost all the children and doesn't really compete on a "sexual" level so just wins by being a gymcel.
Humans have reasonably large testicles but an "oversized" penis but also have large sexual dimorphism on the level of silverback-female (when adjusted for fat free mass at least in some males). So humans have two (or 3) competing strategies (women will choose "pretty" model with a larger penis, men will likely want to win through intraspecific male competition but it's not strong enough to be outright elimination style tournament rules, and human women are monogamous-ish (monoandrous? ) but still relatively promiscuous). When female choice is "exalted" mating devolves into an almost "bird like" game where the "prettiest" male always wins despite no fitness increase, when men are "in charge" it devolves into basically the biggest silverback beats up all the fashion models (and female sexual selection often actually follows suit despite the occasional cheating with a "cute" young twink))
