Big Bear Valley Eagle Cam (FOBBV) pt. 4
Sunny and Gizmo are starting to feed themselves and practicing wing flapping, probably only a few weeks left before they're fully grown enough to start proper flying

Bird chicks grow so rapidly that it's hard to believe. I only took a look at the stream every now and then while 4chan was down. If I missed a couple of days, they looked like some entirely different birds.
I'm happy the eaglets are not so tiny and fragile anymore. Things are looking good for them.

Still, what was with the previous thread? It ended with a mod message:

They could have raised 3 chicks by their ability imo, but the chick who died was very dominant and aggressive so I can't say if Gizmo would have survived if they were still around.

Anonymous No.4989424 [Report]

possibly but unlikely, Gizmo would have had a lot of issues getting enough food with two older, larger, and more food dominant siblings and the nest would be a lot more crowded and stressful with three of them. They did a survey in Virginia a while ago and only 14% of the nests watched(76 out of 557), had three chicks fledge. It was more common for nest to have no chicks make it to fledge than three. I mean even if they did all make it the nest is already crowded with just two of them imagine three of them that size trying to do wingers and jump around

even if they do do something like that and look to do it in Big Bear Valley(which by the way is in the San Bernardino National Forest where logging is already permitted) it would still be illegal to cut down a tree with a Bald Eagle nest in it or to disturb the immediate area around it because of 16 U.S.C. 668-668d, aka the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act

seems to be a daily routine for the moment that Jackie brings a fish to the nest sometime in the afternoon/evening, both of the kids come back to eat and sleep overnight in the next before flying off in the morning to continue exploring the territory, wonder how long it'll continue before they fly off to find their own territory, will be a said day cause Jackie and Shadow won't use the nest after that until the next egg laying season sometime this winter probably, which means the cameras won't have anything to show, at least it'll give them the chance to finally fix the nest camera's microphone
