Plenty of other social animals have this, too, including humans. Deer don't fear the biggest rack of antlers, but the buck that's carrying them. This. The doggy daycare we took our dog to had two dogs at the top; a tall female afghan hound and an ancient male dachshund and neither of them ever barked or growled at other dogs. Even staff who had worked there for almost a decade could barely recall either of those two dogs ever needing to physically intervene when other dogs were fighting or starting trouble. They broke up fights just by walking up to the dogs that were tussling and they would calm down and scatter without as much as a baring of teeth.
