A microchip has an antenna in it and it will pick up frequencies that fuck with your dog's electromagnetic sensing. Also coated in toxic chemicals and studies in mice have shown that implanted microchips lead to cancer in 1/10 mice.

Increased tumor risk, and sometimes they won't even check to see if a dog has a chip anyways.
Years ago I brought a very kind stray cat to the vets and asked them to check if it had a chip, the scanner had a layer of dust on it and we had to wait for the battery to charge, the lady couldn't remember the password and had to call somebody.
So it had probably been years.

Are there any dog food brands that take this into account? There's got to be some treat that could pander to a dog's sense of taste like specialized water ice instead of ice cream.

Blog post, feel free to ignore.

Another uncontrolled dog ran up to my dog again. It is very tiresome. Please leash your dogs. Especially leash them at the local park that thousands of people visit daily. Yeah sure your dog might be cool with other dogs, but mine is not. My dog will fight any dog that gets too close and is roughly the same size. That's only because my dog has been attacked twice by unleashed dogs.

Two women and their children where playing fetch with their dogs. One leashed and other not. But both free-roaming/fetching several dozen feet from the owners. We got a city-wide leash law here.

Their husky ran across the field towards me today, but I managed to grab that dog's leash since I had time to prepare my dog for the potential fight. After my dog was attacked years ago, I always keep minimum 100 feet away from other dogs/humans. I'm not too short so I was able to suspend a husky with one arm while keeping my husky by my side.

Bros, I choked that husky a little by the collar while I was suspending it mid-air by the leash and yelling at this lady to finally come get her fucking dog. I have never hurt a dog before. The largest mammal I have hurt was a mouse. And that was to humanely kill it since it was on a glue trap.

All I can do is tell myself
>no one got hurt

I wanna try playing frisbee with my dog to see if he picks up on it. He's a pom mix, maybe 20% bigger than a pom. I need it to not mess his teeth up, he's older and likes to chew on things and play tug of war.
>Hero Disc Superatom 185 Taffy Plastic
seems ideal but they look like a hassle to buy in the states.
>Hyperflite Hyperflex 7"
I think I will try this one first, unless...
>Hyperflite Jawz 7"
Are these ones fine for a small dog's teeth? Or is the plastic too hard?
>Hyperslite Soflite 7"

Anyone have experience playing frisbee with a small dog and has used discs actually designed for dogs/safety?

This isn't addressing the choices you listed, but I've heard that instead of frisbees you should get those discs with a hole in the middle, pic related
Basically they fly a lot smoother, and when your dog bites on it, the hole in the middle helps give less surface area to bite on

Consider teaching him stay fetch. You have dog stay, throw ball, then give him a release command and he goes and retrieves it.
Stay fetch doesn't activate prey drive like normal fetch does, so dogs stay calmer overall, and the active listening/patience aspect is really good for them.

Been taking Buddy pal to the local obedience school for puppy classes for the sake of socialisation. It's pretty goofy there, they get you to drag your puppy around on leash, doing maneuvers and hand signals and forcing your dog to sit, stand etc. All the people attending classes are super stressed, complaining at their puppy and tugging at the dogs leash as a way of correction. Poor puppies there don't have a clue, don't understand what's expected of them and are super distracted by all the other dogs and people and new smells. It's a complete circus. After puppy school they continue on but begin using chock collars (or check chains as they like to call it). I like the socialisation my dog gets there, but all that other stuff really sucks big time.

He definitely benefits from the socialisation part, he loves meeting all the other dogs, I can see it on his face with his big broad smile. I'm dipping out of this school soon and taking him somewhere else that's less retarded. There's no way in fuck I'm putting a choke chain on my friend, especially when he responds so well to positivity-based training I do with him at home.

In your case I'd find out more about the obedience club you're attending, and don't be afraid to walk away if you don't feel comfortable. Every training school is different, it's a matter of finding one that is a good fit for you and your dog. I also recommend reading dog training books by Jean Donaldson. Out of all the dog training books I've read, hers are the most sane.

This is in Australia. It's an obedience club that was recommended to me by my vet of all people. It's a volunteer org run by old ex-cop farts. So many people attend this club, a shame it's so arse backwards. It's really cheap to attend, $5 per session, so you get what you pay for I suppose. This is the club one of the instructors discouraged me of holding my dog because it teaches him that he is the dominant one, somehow.

I've lined up classes with another group who train therapy dogs, so hopefully they have their act together.

I feel bad especially for the other people attending and their dogs. They don't have a clue what's what, going along with everything they're told to do. I even saw some had already put choke chains on their 14 week-old puppies to drag them along on, it's really sad. I'm going to go early on the next session to exchange info with some of the people at the club, assuming they show up, because Buddy loved playing with their dog, it would be cool if they could be puppy playmates on the weekends. After that I'm out, no more classes for Buddy at that place, the instructors are too damn fat and stupid.

Companion breeds were for the wealthy. Who had a higher quality of life than everyone else. In modern day, we all have a quality of life that is near to, or matching those of the wealthy back in the day. Companion breeds are always malformed. They turn puggish. Truncated snouts with breathing issues, and nervous twitching like with chihuahuas. They shrink down to pocket size, and become become walking vet bills.

All the best dogs are working dogs. They're decently sized, and healthy. And they still retain have the instinct to perform their job. For a lot of breeds, their jobs were just to bark and fend off intruders. But for others, it was herding, spotting, hunting, pulling, etc.

>People who eat dogs have always been desperate, degenerate, broken, inferior, insane, etc.
They're just people who realized that they had more dogs than jobs for dogs to fulfill, so they ate the excess. Who needs a beast around, when they don't serve a purpose? The people who keep animals purely as companions are so broken, that they feel unfulfilled by normal human interaction. And so use animals as a supplement for what they're lacking. It's a similar trait to gluttony. The person who overeats, often claims that they never feel full when eating normal portions. You're like that, but emotionally. You are never full emotionally, so you use animals to gorge yourself on affection.

>The people who keep animals purely as companions are so broken, that they feel unfulfilled by normal human interaction.
No, people with pets are not broken. They are smart. For very little investment, and quite a nice benefit, they can constantly repel horrid autistic cretins such as yourself, as well as any cultist who follows mohammad, and any communism-brained chinese peasant they might run across. There is nothing that is quite as good as repelling undesirable people as a dog, whether you're dirt poor or in high society.

No, you're just so dog-crazy, that you would rather be racist than admit dogs are inferior animals to humans. I don't even know where you're getting this drowned baby propaganda from. The one child policy was not as strict as you seem to think it is. Some especially poor and desperate people would abandon their unwanted children. But that's how it was in all counties. European/western counties all have histories where they would sell off children whom they couldn't afford to feed. Desperate times cause people to take desperate measures.

But the population explosion in China is in large part due to how much food they produce over there. Incredibly fertile lands, and high rice yields, lead to population growth. Meanwhile, in the supposed "superior" countries, lower land fertility resulted in famine and lower birth rates. So in China, eating dog is a choice. Not born of desperation. For a time, even European countries maintained dog slaughter houses. But they were shut down by law. Not out of an abundance of empathy.

You do realized that China makes pets out of dogs too, right? You're not special in that regard.

>they can constantly repel horrid autistic cretins such as yourself
Oh stop it. You sound foolish. You got a dog to repel others? No. You got a dog because you're emotionally starved. Meanwhile, in China, they can rely on community: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECmlEOn1wMU

Huh? Leftists and vegans all love animals and have pets all the time. Autistic people get pets too. I don't know much about Muslims. Are they not allowed to own pets or something?

You're another coper. You're not going to get a dog because some dude on the internet argued that eating dogs is ok.
I like dogs btw. I just don't like most dog owners. Maybe 1 out of 100 owners actually bother to train and discipline their dogs. The rest leave it up to chance. They just hope their dog isn't a menace. Some get lucky with well behaved dogs, other get unlucky with menaces. Some owners actively create menaces, because they're anti-social and hope their dogs scare others away. But for the most part, you all got dogs because you're emotionally starved.

"Makes sense with the poor chinese and whatnot, they are all broken people."

Now you argue that approximately 70% of Chinese people fit the profile of low empathy sociopaths. Well 70% of China's population is 987,700,000 people. That number is so massive, that you are effectively calling a race of people inferior low empathy sociopaths.
This number you pulled out of your ass, isn't even congruent with the information from the website you linked. That website claims that only 20% eat dog or cat, and of the 20% who do, many have only tried it once or twice.
The site then goes on to claim that in some region called Yulin where they hold a festival to promote the dog slaughter industry, even there 72% of the people don't eat dog.

So by your own evidence, the 70% number you pulled is a massive exaggeration. Sounds like racial bias to me. You disregard your own evidence to push the narrative that the vast majority of Chinese people are inferior to you.

Like I said in my very first post on this topic. I believe that while dogs are inferior, humans should do what they can to reduce their suffering. So I wouldn't condone anything on that list. It all smells of abuse and inhumanity to me.

>>5001407
I've never once espoused the notion that good is relative. You put those words in my mouth last thread. However, you're the one arguing that good is based on the evolution of dogs to elicit empathy from humans. Which makes them more worthy than other animals. Which is an argument for relative morality.

Also, if I'm "schizo posting" for lumping multiple people on the same side together, then the person you replied to is also schizoposting. See pic related. He also lumped in two anons as one.

She really is. She does that thing where the second our other dogs leave the play field and are behind the gate/fence she starts barking at them. Thankfully she never fights with Leo anymore. She did a couple times, and I suspect she got her ass beat by Leo when we weren't there one time.
One day she had this weird swelling on her snout that opened into a wound and some scabs on both her ears. No signs of blood tho, which is kinda weird.

I have to look into reducing controlling behavior in dogs. That's really her main issue aside from food aggression.

if you get a puppy then almost any breed can be fine at least with your own cats, with caveats for some extremely aggressive/prey driven dogs
other than that try to go to a shelter/rescue and get an older dog that has been vetted to be fine around cats
really, if you haven't had a dog before, don't get a puppy - it's very overwhelming

Took my puppy for a big walk on the beach. It was a really low tide so we explored a lot of rock pools. My puppy loves the beach but is scared of water and I am trying to get him used to it so I kept walking out on the rocks and then he would follow me and I'd walk through a shallow pool to get back to the beach and he would whine and bark but eventually jump in and wade through the water to follow me back. At the start he didn't even want to get his feet in but by the end he would wade through pools that were up to his belly. Now he's just been sleeping all day.

My sweet girl was put to sleep today. She was 12 years old, very small, runt of the litter. She used to wiggle like worm as a greeting and would jump to my arms excitedly. Her favorite treats were the little bits of unseasoned chicken I would sneak for her. She absolutely hated baths, would somehow knew when we were gonna bathe her and would hide before we even filled the tub. She wasnโ€™t much of a catch or fetch enthusiast, but liked to carry this old mangled up teddy with her around the house. She was buried with the same teddy today. Sorry, donโ€™t really have anyone to tell this to. I am really gonna miss her.

Guess it would depend on the breed of the puppy. My old lady is a heeler and still goes into "nooo you're not allowed to do that!" mode with other dogs. So definitely wouldn't get a breed that was too playful. My brother lived with me for a while and had an Australian Shepherd and they got along pretty well even though he was a bit rambunctious.

Nice, although if you get a puppy from the pound they will come neutered at a very young age...which can be harmful to bone growth. Of course, I get why they snip them, the whole point is preventing other potentially unwanted dogs from showing up in shelters.

In my opinion, you just got trolled. Imagine starting a fake photo contest because someone said "cat website, dogs are reddit". It's stale bait by now, known to everyone who has ever stopped by an /an/ webm thread, and you STILL fell for it. Wow.

No one actually cares about cats vs dog console wars aside from mentally ill losers that take themselves and this website way too seriously.
The contest is just for some light hearted fun and an excuse to make some high effort photos with your pet. Stop projecting all your mental illness onto me. I will say that it is truly hilarious how that one cat guy got so scared after saying he will embarass all the dog posters lol. Still having a melty over it apparently.

I have almost always had cats and like them almost equally to dogs.

One of them was literally born without eyes. The other kept taking the toy I brought down to play with my dog and playing tug of war with me which was fine, I don't mind playing with random friendly dogs and my dog likes it too, but the fucking thing was drooling everywhere out of its flat face and it was just disgusting

I've had my 3 month old pomeranian puppy for a month now. After a rough start with potty training (5+ accidents a day, quite a few of them in her crate) we're down to only 1 accident so far this week. When I take her outside to potty, I give her a treat and praise her whenever she pees or takes a dump. For the past week or so when we're outside, she'll pee and then sometimes pee a second time a few minutes later while I'm waiting for her to take a dump. I praise and reward her for both pees.

My question: Little kids who get rewarded for potty training sometimes realize that they can get a second reward by holding some in and peeing a little a short time later. Is my dog possibly doing this? Should I be rewarding her for both pees?

Other info: I asked the vet if a UTI could be causing these double pees and she said it's very unlikely she has a UTI.

The broad spectrum insecticides scare me because I have heard they can cause neurological disorders later in a dogs life. I only used them when my dog and house had a serious flea infestation. 2 months on nexguard and all the fleas were gone from dog and home never to be seen again. I keep some around just in case I find a flea on him, but it has been many months since I've dosed him. Im in an area where lyme disease and heartworm are both basically a non issue as well. If I was somewhere where those serious concerns were an issue I would likely have him on something year round or at least during tick season.

Dearest /dog/, two of your posters, one with a husky, and another with a german shepherd and a chicken farm, and fucking RUINING /p/. They make everything about them and their stupid fucking drama, shilling shitty oversized cameras with schizo shit like "3d pop tonality", and they SPAMMED A THREAD ABOUT COMPACT CAMERAS TO DEATH because it made them feel insecure about wasting money on professional cameras they don't know how to use! /p/ might never have a lively micro four thirds general ever again because husky fucker and german shepherd chicken farm faggot got mad about their oversized cameras they can barely use not being unequivocal photography improvers! For reference, here is some micro four thirds photography

This is what husky fucker and german shepherd chicken farm faggot were so angry about and wanted dead and buried. Neither of these two faggots have posted a good picture either. Their photos look like fucking SHIT. Multiple people have compared them to phone photos, and the husky fucking faggot is a compulsive liar who purposefully tries to make micro four thirds look bad by renaming the files from his shitty nikon DSLR. The dpreview threads I linked show much better photography than either of those two idiots have ever posted.

Take them back, or we'll have to dox them to get rid of them.

Okay! No skin off my back.
I put effort into making sure the categories are fun and balanced for both cats and dogs, and I'm not even participating in the contest.

I've been wanting to make one of these threads for a long while cause it sounded fun. The perfect time just came up when that guy said he was the best photographer in the world because he was a cat person and I said lets have a contest to see if that's true.

I know there are people that actually care an extreme amount about cat and dog consolewar, but I just see it as a silly and unserious thing. A little healthy competition between the two sides is harmless fun. Kind of like the tripfag vs. Anon photo contest that was held ages ago.

Lol I wouldnt call it that... Did you even look at how I set it up? It's got some really fun categories, and I think they are very fair for both sides.

Consolewars is just gay retards taking themselves way too seriously while being gay retards ad infinitum. Real console warriors are way too cowardly to ever have an honest competion with the opposing side where they could actually lose.
This contest is an opportunity for some healthy competition and to take some creative photos of your cat or dog!

Either way I don't think many people will contribute because most people on here actually hate fun and fun havers so yeah. My hopes aren't high for it.
I'm going to make some photos to share in the thread even if my pics cant qualify for votes/wins. It's going to be a lot of fun!

Hey sorry, I'm crossposting from /r9k/ cuz I realized you might know, can you actually tell just by feeling if a dog has been spayed?
tl;dr, my mom found a dog, she couldn't take care of it, no one ever responded to any of the lost dog shit she put up, gave me the dog
>take dog to the vet for shots and shit cuz I don't know anything about her
>tell vet I need to know if she's chipped or been spayed or literally anything
>vet starts groping dog's stomach kind of hard for like less than 30 seconds
>"Nah she's empty"
>What?
>"She's been spayed already"

Did this faggot just molest my fucking dog?
Can you actually feel a dog's fucking uterus or lack thereof through their fucking intestines and stomach wall, or did this motherfucker seriously just feel up my new dog for no reason right in front of me?

is there really an issue with copying a "raw" dog food diet like Dr Harvey's dog food (not a shill) making it myself and then giving my dog a vitamin supplement? I currently feed my dog Hill's le heckin science based dog food and have been thinking of switching it up possibly due to reading some negatives about mass produced kibble.

Cope and It's against the rules to question/go against the soience. Those completely virtuous vets and purina sponsored doggy diet scientists know exactly what your dog needs.
The main negative I hear about raw is that your dog can start shitting salmonella.

Human grade vitamins are constantly found to be contaminated with heavy metals and harmful impurities. I would bet the standard dog vitamin blend is significantly less pure. You can make a diet that doesn't need the vitamin mix, but it will be a little more expensive.

Oh, yeah you can 100% feed your dog home cooked meals. Consider getting bloodwork before you start the diet, and then somewhere around 6 months after, so you can make 100% sure you aren't causing any deficiencies.

Oats are really good for dog, but you should only buy organic. Conventional oats have some of the highest levels of residual pesticides of any food.

r/dogfood is unironically ran by kibble shills and they will ban you for talking about raw diets unless you are telling people how bad they are. There is a sub called r/rawpetfood which is pretty good for discussion of raw pet food.

I don't know what Dr harvey's dog food is but dogs can basically get everything they need nutritionally from eating lean meat, edible bones and organs. I mostly feed my dog raw chicken wings, beef mince, beef rib bones, beef liver and kidney, eggs and canned sardines (in water with no salt). Also other random stuff that I buy when it's on sale but all that stuff i mentioned is fairly affordable so that's what makes up the bulk of his diet. He fucken loves crunching up chicken wings.

I don't think oats, sweet potatoes, carrots, brown rice and beans should make up any significant portion of a dogs diet. Dogs need meat.

Oats are very good for dogs. But yeah, mostly meat with a lil bit of oats.

I need some advice: Over the past couple of months my dogs has repeatedly chewed open his paws. Pic rel shows a more or less healed bite mark from last week in the center and a fresh one on the left where the fur begins (see the newly exposed white skin). Its gotten to the point where I cannot leave him alone anymore because I need to supervise him. Also I cannot go much outside with him because his wounds need to heal and cannot get dirty. I am almost certain he has allergies but I do not know which. We did a blood test a last year which was more or less inconclusive, except that it showed a "minimal allergy towards mites" which are commonly found in food. So we switched and restricted the food and for some time it seemed like this helped but now it seems to me its really some environmental/contact allergy. Do I do a intradermal skin test now? And what can I do in the meantime? Wash the paws daily (ive heard about iodine or saline paw baths)? Wash the fur with some hypo-allergic shampoo weekly? Are there any topical options you might recommend? What about preventative stuff? Thoughts, recommendations, experiences would be very much appreciated.

As a vet, I would recommend you wait until you can take him to a veterinary clinic. Put a cone on him in the meanwhile and check his ears and others parts of his body for rashes/wounds/etc.
If its purely localized in the paws it can be an infection rather than an allergic reaction. Regardless, you will not be able to treat it effectively without knowing what is present in the wounds.

To add: there are times when hes has infections in between his toes too. Small little reddish skin sections which eventually ooze some puss. Usually this heals in 1-2 days after they first appear. There are times when infections are caused by licking/biting (I think from the bacteria in the saliva). But, I am now also wondering if infections also can occur on their own? Because he will get them in areas where it would be really difficult for him to bite open and often I do not see any visible bite marks around the infected areas (like in the previous picture). Like really in the center of two pads when the fur is really thick. I think they sometimes get irritated on their own and maybe it gets worse or infected by licking or from the warm/moist conditions in between the pads.

Thanks for replying. I treat the wounds once with some diluted iodine immediately when I notice it (with a soaked cotton pad). He wears a sock so he cant get to it and if I can supervise him also leave the wound to open (I think contact with the air is helpful?). I also have an antibiotic balm which I put in case I see puss or think an infection is likely. To answer your question. Its really localized to the paws. His skin on other parts never showed anything atypical. Are there any tests you might recommend I do in a clinic?

Well the most basic test should be a simple cytology of the skin of the paw. Likely other places too to compare.
Can't imagine they'll need anything more complicated unless standard treatments fail.

>"can be an infection rather than an allergic reaction"
so something like a recurring/chronic infection that is multifocal, causing flares? As oppose to acute infected areas caused by environmental factors or licking/biting? A cytology could test for this? And, is a cytology still useful if the skin is already healing (maybe some crust or scar tissue that a day or two old)?

Yeah a cytology should work still. Yeah could be a infection, but it could also be secondary to a reaction; not much I can say about it from behind a screen.

Our husky is turning 10 this year and had a partial mastectomy and hysterotomy last week. She has breast cancer and now we're told she's got lung cancer and kidney crystals. If the mastectomy doesn't "stick" she will need a full mastectomy. I will not allow such suffering, do not worry. I prefer she lives 1 decent year than 5 shit ones.

My dad is incredibly attached to this dog after my mom split. Our dog has helped him claw himself out of depression. I love my parents. I love my dog. However, I have to be a realist. This dog will die within 5 years.
My mom isn't coming back.
My dad is half the man he used to be.

When is it appropriate to get another dog? Should I wait until after our pup dies or get another dog to transition my dad into relying on the new dog?

We got this husky after 18 years of chihuahuas. There were 3 months we were dogless. Those 3 months felt empty. I want a dog in the house, but my dad needs one.

What would you do in my position?

If the Husky is in good enough condition to keep up with the puppy, I would say sooner is better then later. It helps them to behave better to have an older dog around to learn from, they clearly enjoy having another dog to do dog shit with, and having the overlap makes it feel less like a replacement even if it is.

I will have to wait 3 months before I can consider a puppy after reading your post. I'm worried if I get a pup too soon, our husky might hurt herself. They really sliced her up something fierce at the vet.

That gives you a lot of time to find a good breeder and get on the waiting list for a litter instead of scrambling in the moment, so that works out anyway.

Thanks for putting it into perspective I should not allow myself to be rushed into puppy. I never considered there may be waiting lists.

Now the hard part is finding the right dog. I want to go for a mutt, but not one from a shelter. I hate shelters after they gave me grief by demanding a home inspection that I'd have to pay for before I could buy a dog off them.

Mutts are fine, but there's plenty of reasonable breeders who actually do give a shit about the health of their dog, while someone doing backyard breeding of even mutts might not be as smart about ensuring good genetics, and there's something to be said for being able to have a good idea to a dog's general temperament before getting attached to them, especially if you're American and most mutts are going to be pitbull mixes.
