Need is a funny word to use here. They can digest starch nearly as well as you can due to a triplication of a gene related to starch digestion (wolves have one copy, dingos two copies, and normal domestic dogs either 3 or 4 copies). Dogs can't have salt and fat, which are coincidentally the two most important foods to keep to yourself if you want to survive the winter under natural conditions. They can have excessively lean meat (like rabbit) daily, love the less good tasting organs, and think stale bread is tasty. I think you should be able to see why dogs did so well with humans now.

Give him wet dog food either from a tin or a pouch. Of course your dog doesn't want to eat fucking kibble. I'm not so amazing to my cat that I cook it it's own food, but I give it wet food pouches that are mostly meat and meat gravy. They have dry food (kibble) as something during the day for if they get hungy between meals. Fresh chicken or fish as a treat.

But yeah, your dog wants actual food, anon. Just get wet dog food it ain't that hard.

the nutrient profile of wet food vis-a-vis dry kibble isn't that different. the moisture content is what differs, which is good for cats since they generally are bad at self-regulating when they need water, but dogs drink from their bowl whenever they need to

Lol get a job. $10k is nothing. I spent that much on my camera (before the lens - leica m11). if you cant afford a 10k expense you should be devoting your entire life to avoiding it. feed your dog slaughterhouse scraps and oats.

for me, it's the various cuttings and reject meat, grease and broth, throw in some eggs, and sop it all up with stale bread. That's almost always gonna get eaten up.

My grandmother has a dog like that. Little lap dog that acts like a starving street dog that's been fighting for food it's whole life, but won't eat food meant for her. Dry, wet, fresh prepared, doesn't matter. Has to come off of a person's plate, or out of a person's hand.
Mostly because my grandmother can't help but give her little bits of her food when she whines. But she's eighty and just wants something to take care of, and only got the dog because a friend of hers gave it to her for free when her dog had puppies. So I don't hold it against her too much, though I do acknowledge that it's not good for her dog.
